Netgear, being a fairly major company when it comes to wireless networks have certain standards expected of the concerning their products. Therefore, after aquiring my DG834GT super wireless router with built in modem (large title...), i felt somewhat dissapointed with its overall performance, especially considering I forked out £80 for it (althogh it came with a wireless usb adapter too).
After setting it up, which was not too hard at all, i was satisfied with the product. the CD supplied which is required to setup the connection to the internet and security etc, was all in good order, althogh a bit overwhelming. there are a lot of options for things I have no knowledge of and the description given is very poor.
The actual instruction were OK. they were on the CD but would've been better in a book. they weren't all that neccessary anyway, the disk had a step by step animation of the setup process which was far easier to understand.
After all the fiddling I then got my browser up and running, the router plus its modem had no trouble streaming live video while buffering another video and browsing all at the same time. It's got a great speed and has a stable connection, i've never had much of a problem with it. It was seemingly an excellent buy.
Eventually problems arose. after just a couple of hours it was ready to fry sausages and although it is still working, that sort og heat is not doing it any good, not to mention showing how inefficient it is. Pending on its environment, this could be an issue for it and things around it, its reliability must be effected by the heat.
Another problem then arose. its range. Althogh not powerful itself, I have a nintendo DS and tried connecting to it. It worked but the connection was unstable just at the opposite side of my house. I get a better connection in fact, from a router accross the street! the latest firmware that is available claims it improves range but I noticed no difference.
All-in-all its powerful and has 4 ports for wiring up computers aswel as going wireless but for those who like to sit in the garden I wouldn't trust its range, and for those who want something more efficient or just generally cooler, look elsewhere.

Good review although I do disagree - I have the same router and I have no problems at all connecting all over the house. It does heat up fast though; the unit itseld stays cool enough because it's positioned in a cool place but the adaptor gets very hot if used for any major length of time
Advantages: Easy to use, good security features, lots of extras for thse who want to use them Disadvantages: Not the cheapest, documentation might not be great in the event of problems
Advantages: Small footprint, 802.11b, g and pre-n supported, easy to use and customise Disadvantages: Control panel can appear daunting at first, help provided could be more concise
