The netgear also has a diagnostics page which you can access on your pc and from that I saw that the speed was very slow and there was a lot of noise on the line. So this was evidence for vodafone to give BT engineers who came and found my phone line was broken at the telegraph pole.
One new phone line later and everything is well.
The modem is white and comes with a stand so it actually stands on end and takes up very little space. ...
