I was given this modem by Vodafone when I signed up for their 'At home' service. In case you are interested this gives you broadband and home phone if you are already a mobile customer.
The modem is great, it looks sleek and modern. There are four lights, the bottom light shows it is plugged in to the mains, the second shows it is communicating with your computer, third shows the broadband connection is working and finally the fourth shows that you are actually connected to the internet.I did not have to install anything, just plugged it in, entered my username and password and hey presto it worked. I am using Windows 2000 by the way and it is rare not to have to install drivers for any new hardware.
The lights are actually very helpful, a while ago I had major problems connecting to the net. I could see that the fourth light was not lit, so although I had a broadband connection something was going wrong somewhere along the line. The netgear also has a diagnostics page which you can access on your pc and from that I saw that the speed was very slow and there was a lot of noise on the line. So this was evidence for vodafone to give BT engineers who came and found my phone line was broken at the telegraph pole.
One new phone line later and everything is well. The modem is white and comes with a stand so it actually stands on end and takes up very little space. It needs to be plugged into the electric and connects with via ethernet.
