Simple alternative to messy wires!
Advantages: tidy, fast and worth the money. Disadvantages: expensive
The microsoft wireless adapter for the xbox 360 is an obvious alternative to messy wires. It's simple plug and play gives ease of getting online providing you have a wireless router with broadband. It has generally strong signal all the time, unless you have lots of other computers/laptops using the same router. Gameplay almost never cuts out and is very reliable. Although pricey, it is well worth it, and, if like me, you experience a problem, microsofts ...

WARNING - STEER CLEAR IF YOU HAVE VISTA!
Advantages: Looks cool... Disadvantages: Incompatible with Vista / Belkin N1 Router with WPA security!!!
...connect. Ok, so the Belkin Wireless utility doesn't work, hmm, try the network icon in the system tray. Choose the relevant network, type in the security key - 'Connecting is taking longer than usual'. No IP address is assigned.... And I am trying to connect this to a BELKIN N1 ROUTER!!
Now after checking online I discover there is no certified release software as yet for Vista, only a pre-release beta that you 'install and use at your own risk' ... ...as I don't have an XP machine to try it on any more, but it is therefore USELESS for what I need it for until Belkin pull their fingers out and sort out some Vista drivers that fix the rather serious bugs present. Going back to Netgear! ...

Kept dropping the connection
Advantages: Cheap Disadvantages: Doesn't work for long enough to be usable! (For me, anyway)
I had a laptop on which the internal wireless adapter kept dropping the connection, so I thought I would buy one of these to "replace" it.
Unfortunately the connection through this device didn't seem much better. I assumed it was a problem with the laptop.
However I later used this device on an old desktop that hadn't been used for a while, but it still has many connection problems. Sometimes it works fine for quite a while, but at other times ... ...I have no problems with the internal wireless connections from three other laptops, and no problem with a desktop wireless PCI card.
I haven't tried any other USB wireless adapters so I don't know if there are any general problems with them, but this one has been pretty useless.
Setting it up was reasonably straightforward, as long as you follow the instructions.
The stand is a bit light, and not very sturdy. It feels as if the adapter might fall ...

Internet Wireless
Advantages: wireless Disadvantages: sometimes low speed
At first I was skeptical, not that I could work ... At home my phone is fixed on the ground floor and the pc the first floor. I have to spend a lot of money to get internet (cable or wireless equipment expensive) when I informed about the possibility of exploiting or not the wireless modem on my phone, I said that enough to buy this stick from 40 € (30 £).
To my pleasure I have verified that it works perfectly, I never drop the phone line, the installation ... ...PC automatically searches for the signal and if the modem is turned on it connects: done.
No matter how many walls, doors closed, phones and TV are among us, I can navigate safely is incredible, really a good buy.
The package includes a USB cable for direct it better and sticker to paste your computer no longer move them.
The only thing is that when checking signal strength is low, and has never improved, so I do not know if he can get better ...

Music where you want it
Advantages: Moved music from your PC to you living room Disadvantages: None
The Apple AirPort Express is an interesting bit of kit. It's a wireless device that you can use in one of three ways [or, in fact, in all three ways].
It can create a wireless network to allow your desktop, laptop, wii, PSP etc to talk to each other. It doesn't have a built in modem, so won't connect directly to the internet, but it does have an ethernet port and so could be used with a modem to connect the network to the internet.
However, I think ... ...receiver. It has a USB port, into which you could plug a USB printer. This then makes you printer usable from any machine in the house, without having to have a dedicated network printer.
The reason I got one, though, is because it comes with a piece of software called AirTunes. This allows it to receive music streamed from any desktop or laptop [Windows or Mac] which has iTunes on it. The Express has a music output port: this allows you to use ...
