G650+ G520+ and their US counterparts
Review of D-Link AirPlus Xtreme G+ DWL-G650+ by D-Kill

Advantages: good performance
Disadvantages: no linux support *** no 108Mbps

...Apparently, these are the versions D-Link reserves for out-side the US. Trying to upgrade to 108Mbps as promised in the adds was unsuccessful. I didn't even find any info on the G650+ cards on the .COM website. Mails to D-Link remained unanswered. After some research in the newsgroups, I found out the following : The DWL-G650+ and DWL-520+ are using a different chipset than the G650 (the "+" is very important). You will not find this info on the ...
...1:because the G650+ uses a cheaper chipset (Motorola) it has currently no 108Mbps support as its bigger brother does (G650, no "+"). 2:because of this chipset it has a very poor support on linux. So if one intends to use this card with linux - guess again and try some other card. When going to the European websites one finds more info on "+" and not the performant ones. ... Read review

Generally more trouble than they are worth
Review of D-Link AirPlus Xtreme G DWL G650 by alexscott

Advantages: PCMCIA, doesn't take up USB port
Disadvantages: Slows computer, occasionally not recognised

...wireless functionality. I bought a D-Link router and two of these PCMCIA cards for the kids laptops. Wireless networks are not exactly easy to sort out in the first place, mainly due to different manufacturers having their own ways of setting things up, but this was a nightmare! We did exactly as the manual told us to, and they didn't work. We took off all forms of encryption and reset the wireless router back to complete factory defaults. These ...
...after hours of uninstalling, re-installing and resetting things we managed to get one laptop to work with it. This laptop, running Windows XP, now runs okay. However, every now and then when the laptop is reset or turned on after a long time being off, it doesn't recognise the card and says there is no wireless cards attached and no wireless networks within range. Give the laptop a reset and voila, it is fine again. Frustrating. The other laptop ... Read review

Go Wireless with D-Link
Review of D-Link Air DWL 650+ by Deru

Advantages: Easy to set up and use, Stable, Good support
Disadvantages: A bit out dated

The D-Link DWL-G650+ is a PCMCIA wireless (WiFi) card, which plugs into an available PCMCIA slot on a laptop. With this card, it wireless-enables a laptop, assuming it doesn't have built-in wireless already. The card cost me about £25 at the time but you may be able to find the same one cheaper now. Most of these seem to be in this price range if not less, since they are becoming redundant with new laptops already having built-in cards. It's a 802.11G ...
...You can use the D-Link software or you can use Windows XP SP2's wireless function.. While using the XP function, I'm usually connected as soon as I've turned on my laptop so no need to choose to connect to a network. It's the same with the D-Link utility. When connected to a wireless network, the card flashes. The D-Link software lets you scan the area for wireless networks and then lets you choose which one you want to connect to. The software ... The perfect router
Review of Netgear WG602 54 Mbps Wireless Access Point by calumneilson

Advantages: Cheap, easy to use, many features, secure, small, good looking
Disadvantages: None

I had this router for well over two years and in that time it worked brilliantly. It is easy to set up, you just plug it in then use your web browser to go to the control panel, not installation or software is needed. You can manage the many settings inside the control panel. You can change all the huge amount of features such as security, encryption, two firewalls and many more features. You can easily use this router for home servers using port ...
...using the managment interface. It is easy to upgrade to the newest firmware, which is advisable. Since the newest versions are more secure and generally better. Only in the end did this reliable router break down during a thunderstorm, but it went with my computer, printer and other stuff (so it wasn't the router's fault). Overall this is really great value for money, even for limited computer users. ... Read review

Wireless in a Stick
Review of ZyXEL ZyAIR G-202 by AlastairI

Advantages: small, easy to use, easy to install, user friendly
Disadvantages: range is not as good as a router

...I'm very impressed with the Zyxel USB stick, I have a wireless set up in my house but one of my PCs did not have a wireless card. This is an extremely cheap alernative to fitting a card and ideal for those who don't want to, or don't know how to open up the PC and install them. Zyxel have made a stylish little USB device with a very easy to use software interface. Literally within minutes you are up and running and able to connect to any wireless ...
...router you can use the Zyxel for this purpose. Setting it to AP mode and setting it up with or without password protection you can then have other people connect to your network through their wireless devices. Perfect for households with more than one PC user who wish to hop onto the internet. Of course the range is not as complete as a full blown wireless router, but for use in a smaller household or section it's a fantastic piece of kit. Lovely ... Read review
