Is bandwidth important to you?

Advantages: low maintenance, good distance
Disadvantages: has trouble through concrete

...I bought my NetGear Wireless Card in Japan but this is also available in the UK. The package did not contain instructions in English and the software was not in English either. The card ran fine when I plugged it in. Windows XP just searched for a driver for it online. Of course, you have to be plugged in to the internet through a cable first. When I got back home, I went to their website, punched in the model number and downloaded the drivers to ...
...immediately. So, even without the bells and whistles of the package you should be able to run it. Performance-wise I didn't seem have a problem with it in Japan. Hotspots are a dime a dozen. When I moved to London however, I was having a hard time getting a signal from router in the front room. I suspect the concrete was too much for the signal to get through. It had to go through 3 walls to get to my laptop. I can however see my neighbors access ...

...to work. Calling the Actiontec helpline was straightforward. The foreign call-centre operators were well-trained and dilligent but unfamiliar with the product, causing a bit of awkawarness trying to communicate the problem. Still, they quickly managed to ascertain that the problem was with the modem/router. An Actiontec engineer called and sent a firmware upgrade for the router by email. After that, setting up security was easy: the card allows 128-bit ...
...Hex or ASCII characters. Ease of use: After more than three months of using the 54g card in various rooms in our inner city flat, it has worked smoothly enough to fade into the background. Plugging in and removing it is easy, using the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon in the taskbar for the latter. The device sticks out of the PC-card slot by 3 cm, enough to make you wary of breaking it, but no problems so far as it seems to be fairly well-constructed. ...

Simple alternative to messy wires!

Advantages: tidy, fast and worth the money.
Disadvantages: expensive

The microsoft wireless adapter for the xbox 360 is an obvious alternative to messy wires. It's simple plug and play gives ease of getting online providing you have a wireless router with broadband. It has generally strong signal all the time, unless you have lots of other computers/laptops using the same router. Gameplay almost never cuts out and is very reliable. Although pricey, it is well worth it, and, if like me, you experience a problem, microsofts ...

Belkin N1 - Intergolactic Connection Reciever.

Advantages: Very Quick, Stable connection
Disadvantages: May be a pain to set up, slightly big.

This thing is perfect for everyday use in a laptop, i can anywhere in my space, including my garden and still get the strongest connection possible this is due to the fact that my wireless sender only sends 54m/s with this taken into consideration the range is fantastic and the speed is way higher than it really needs to be. being a bit of a perfectionist i couldn't settle for a basic connection, encryption was nessecary and this was made harder ...
...worked well and fast. The overall look of the card is good but if your laptop is bright pink or white don't expect it to be very good looking, overall its shell is a bit bulky for what it actually is, a circuit board and a few lights, and overall body could be made nicer and smaller the package was cheap and will serve is purpose until PCI becomes too slow and usb takes over. and i am impressed with a very unimpressive piece of hardware. i have only ...

Linksys Wireless-G - Easy to use install

Advantages: Easy to use, fast, easy to install
Disadvantages: May be prone to damage

The Wireles-G USB Adapter is an excellent product, and does exactly what it was designed for with the minimum of fuss or complexity. On first look, you'd say it looks rather like a slightly chunky flash drive, but it's way more effective than that. It can be used to connect a PC or laptop to a local network, directly to another computer or, probably most commonly, to a wireless router for broadband internet access. It is connected, as you'd expect ...
...your view, the fact it's external to the computer can be viewed as a plus or a negative. On the plus side, it's handy if you're using for more than one computer, however on the negative side, I expect there's a much greater chance of damage due to dropping, spillages etc. The connection is capable of incredibly fast connection speeds (certainly as fast as my broadband can supply), and I have personally had no complaints so far in terms of reliability. ...
