A reliable choice

Advantages: Reliable, Quiet and Fast
Disadvantages: None as of yet

An excellent storage facility, I have been using the Baffalo brand for a number of years now and still use my original 80g unit. Other brands I have used have gone under, causing me to lose some data, so I up to now have no reason to doubt Baffalo's reliability, which is my main concern when choosing storage. Buffalo Linkstation Pro Duo LS-W2.0TGL/R1

Advantages: Very fast, high capacity.
Disadvantages: Pricey, may be outlived by long-life Blu-ray discs.

As our latest project comes to a close and we face losing any unused capital we again raise the idea of network storage with the boss. It's something we have mentioned repeatedly and suddenly find ourselves with an offer of whatever we can get for £1000. Taking our initiative from the US government we decide why buy one device when we could buy two of these? Great unit, bad Firmware and Cust. Support.

Advantages: Handles beautifully on the network and runs smooth and quick.
Disadvantages: Stock firmware is useless. Gotta use a 3rd party firmware.

This is a great little device, however there are some quirks using the stock firmware. I say forget the stock firmware altogether and install a 3rd party firmware instead. Otherwise you got a painfully useless brick. I've found fvdw online and it opens up several features that make this unit a dream to own. Has it's potential problems.

Advantages: Lots of storage on a network drive. Fast.
Disadvantages: Quirky connection. Might connect and might not.
