Does the job but capable of so much more!

Advantages: Low cost, small size, low-power consumption. Very hackable for those of you who like to get more out of your toys.
Disadvantages: Cabling can become a bit of a rats nest. Requires an external USB harddrive.

...firmware was downloaded from the Linksys web site this problem got much better. * Requires an external USB harddrive. If hacking hardware is not your thing, or you consider yourself to be a techie novice then you may be better off looking elsewere. There are too many things that can go wrong; particuarly with NTFS formated drives - which it did not support when I purchased my unit. If on the other hand you're interested in hacking this device, ...

A reliable choice

Advantages: Reliable, Quiet and Fast
Disadvantages: None as of yet

An excellent storage facility, I have been using the Baffalo brand for a number of years now and still use my original 80g unit. Other brands I have used have gone under, causing me to lose some data, so I up to now have no reason to doubt Baffalo's reliability, which is my main concern when choosing storage. Even with a few clumsy people around the place it has handed a few knocks and tumbles with no drama. The newer link stations have become quieter ...
...lot about Baffalo as a company, in terms of the effort they put into developing their products. I also like the sleek yet robust design, as mentioned they have a good sturdy feel. It is simple to use straight out of the box and easily intergrated into a network, primarily used as back-up in my case. ...

Buffalo Linkstation Pro Duo LS-W2.0TGL/R1

Advantages: Very fast, high capacity.
Disadvantages: Pricey, may be outlived by long-life Blu-ray discs.

As our latest project comes to a close and we face losing any unused capital we again raise the idea of network storage with the boss. It's something we have mentioned repeatedly and suddenly find ourselves with an offer of whatever we can get for £1000. Taking our initiative from the US government we decide why buy one device when we could buy two of these? Thus we have one for our network project and finally a decent sized device for our own backups. ...
...The unit is surprisingly compact and although it may look like a midi-sized PC case in the picture it is actually a lot smaller measuring a little over 6 inches high and only 4 inches wide. The back of the case has 2 USB sockets (one to connect to a PC, the other to network a printer). There's also a standard auto-sensing LAN port (10/100/1000 megabit compatible), an on/off switch (which also has an auto setting) and a rather curious, possibly James ...

...data. When you contact iomega you are told two things, they can replace the hardware, affectively doing nothing for your lost data, or you are given the number to call for the Iomega Data Recovery Center. They will want to charge between $3k and $23k for their service. There is NO other company that can access iomega proprietary file structure so don't waste your time. This seems to be a real problem and if anyone is interested I am having a lawyer ...

Has it's potential problems.

Advantages: Lots of storage on a network drive. Fast.

...and lost the power cord. Western Digitial sales department didn't have one in stock, but they checked the tech support side and found one to sell me. I appreciated that. By the time I received the cord, I had moved my office and we set up my network slightly different. Since then I've had NO luck connecting this to my network. I've had my corporate tech support guy to my office and he says it can't be done. In addition, my hard drive crashed and ...

Some of have found a complicated solution, but I still haven't been able to connect. I bought the second one before I realized I was going to have this issue. The drive is easily accessible but comes with a program you don't really need. I don't care for that. Supposedly I had to install it in order to see it on the network. ...
