Buffalo LinkStation Live - Easy Network Storage
Review of Buffalo LinkStation Live HS-DH320GL by davomrmac

Advantages: Easy access to files, claim back computer hard drive space
Disadvantages: Not as fast as a USB2 or Firewire hard drive

...testing the LinkStation Live from Buffalo Technologies. It is availble in sizes up to 1TB. This compact box contains a SATA hard drive and sports a nice front panel with informative status LED's up front. Around the back of the unit you plug in your power cable (the power supply is in the unit itself, so no external brick). The back also sports the 10/100/1000 Mbps ethernet socket, so it is nice to see that Gigabit speeds are supported. When viewing ...
...hides a tiny fan for cooling purposes. In use, you can definitely hear the fan, but is is very quiet, so not intrusive at all. There is also a USB 2.0 port, which is great. It allows you to plug in another hard drive, so you can expand the amount of storage capacity on your network with a standard external hard drive. Setting up the drive is really easy. Everything is configured via a standard web browser interface. You can set up users and passwords, ... Read review

Buffalo Linkstation Pro Duo LS-W2.0TGL/R1
Review of Buffalo LinkStation Pro Duo LS-W2.0TGL/R1 by cport80

Advantages: Very fast, high capacity.
Disadvantages: Pricey, may be outlived by long-life Blu-ray discs.

As our latest project comes to a close and we face losing any unused capital we again raise the idea of network storage with the boss. It's something we have mentioned repeatedly and suddenly find ourselves with an offer of whatever we can get for £1000. Taking our initiative from the US government we decide why buy one device when we could buy two of these? Thus we have one for our network project and finally a decent sized device for our own backups. ...
...The unit is surprisingly compact and although it may look like a midi-sized PC case in the picture it is actually a lot smaller measuring a little over 6 inches high and only 4 inches wide. The back of the case has 2 USB sockets (one to connect to a PC, the other to network a printer). There's also a standard auto-sensing LAN port (10/100/1000 megabit compatible), an on/off switch (which also has an auto setting) and a rather curious, possibly James ... Read review

Review of Apple NAS server by brunocrosier

Advantages: Massive memory, Beautiful, Works with PCs, Connects to any amount of computers, Printer Compatability
Disadvantages: Price

...other reviews will know - Apple provide the Time Machine software for free with every single mac they sell. This connects to the Time Capsule (Apple NAS server) to backup every single file you've ever created. And the best thing is that it does it automatically. So, unlike the tempramental System Restore feature we see in Vista and XP, your data is completely safe with Time Capsule. The product comes in models of either 500GB or 1TB ...

Good product with a few problems
Review of NETGEAR ReadyNAS NV+ RND4410 by darkchildx

Advantages: speed, storage, share directories
Disadvantages: Permission loss, network lockouts

This product has it's ups and downs. At my company we have been using three of these over the past few years. The over-all shelf-life is great but the product itself has a few probems. The Good File storage - Storing files on these devices is easy and simple. You can easily create shares through their web interface and change each folders' permissions with ease. Speed - The overall transfer speed is really good. You can send various amounts of ...
...Permission Issues - Sometimes these devices like to forget the permissions that have been assigned to them which can cause users to be unable to view or edit the work they have done. Network Lockouts - Today I have experienced a new problem where al of our internal staff can connect to these drives but anyone logging in via vpn are unable to see them. ... Read review
