Perfect home storage
Advantages: Great community support, simple to use, cheap Disadvantages: Very noisy fan, Faster products available , blue lights (why o why)
...1tb drive
Quite often Netgear are offering a FREE drive , so allways check out before you purchase. Looks- the Design is black all the way round, its very slim and small with attractive blue lights to show if its on , and HD activity. (not recommended to be placed in a bedroom, unless u like a light show). Unfortunatly It is VERY LOUD, the fan on the back is large and makes quite abit of noise, especially on boot. While you could have it in your ... ...Usability- As with most netgear products they are designed for the Dummy to the expert, each process in the UI can be done via the funky wizard's and achived in mins to have setup. Or you can turn off the wizard and actully do some more technicall setup's lke addon's (nzb, bittorrent, FTP,ect...) . Performance- The perfomance is kinda midrange, Its not the fastest unit out there, but at 150 with a Hd (+1 free) it can be quite a bargain for its read ...

Great unit, bad Firmware and Cust. Support.
Advantages: Handles beautifully on the network and runs smooth and quick. Disadvantages: Stock firmware is useless. Gotta use a 3rd party firmware.
This is a great little device, however there are some quirks using the stock firmware. I say forget the stock firmware altogether and install a 3rd party firmware instead. Otherwise you got a painfully useless brick. I've found fvdw online and it opens up several features that make this unit a dream to own. The sharing and FTP capabilities for multiple users is more secure and easy to create and maintain. fvdw can be found at: http://convopit.org/forum3/viewtopic.php?p=256939#p256939 ... ...at the forum is great. Recently the firmware won an award from: NAS central http://www.nas-central.org/2009-1-competition-results Again, this is an excellent device with very few issues as long as you use a 3rd party firmware. Phillips seems to not care too much about this product with poor technical support. Plus this device was not released too widely. They may not have expected it to do well in sales. ...

WARNING! DO NOT BUY THIS UNIT!
Advantages: Can't think of any Disadvantages: way too many.
...data. When you contact iomega you are told two things, they can replace the hardware, affectively doing nothing for your lost data, or you are given the number to call for the Iomega Data Recovery Center. They will want to charge between $3k and $23k for their service. There is NO other company that can access iomega proprietary file structure so don't waste your time. This seems to be a real problem and if anyone is interested I am having a lawyer ...

Has it's potential problems.
Advantages: Lots of storage on a network drive. Fast. Disadvantages: Quirky connection. Might connect and might not.
...and lost the power cord. Western Digitial sales department didn't have one in stock, but they checked the tech support side and found one to sell me. I appreciated that. By the time I received the cord, I had moved my office and we set up my network slightly different. Since then I've had NO luck connecting this to my network. I've had my corporate tech support guy to my office and he says it can't be done. In addition, my hard drive crashed and ... ...researched online at both the Western Digital site and elsewhere and I have found that other people have the same problem. Some of have found a complicated solution, but I still haven't been able to connect. I bought the second one before I realized I was going to have this issue. The drive is easily accessible but comes with a program you don't really need. I don't care for that. Supposedly I had to install it in order to see it on the network. ...

Filesystem woes with the Conceptronic CHD3NET
Advantages: both USB and Network capability Disadvantages: only supports FAT32
...are next to impossible. Unless Conceptronic updates the firmware and adds support for a modern journaling filesystems such as NTFS or EXT2 or 3, this is a strong argument to stay away from this product.
As a USB device, it should be turned on while plugged to the USB port in order to get it to work properly. As an FTP server, it works flawlessly, with Smbmount, I've had considerable difficulty getting it to play nice, but that may be issues with ...
