۞ When I first stumbled upon this great site [of which I’ve been ‘born again’ into after a 3 year time out] yonks and yonks ago, I was a churner. I’m not ashamed to admit it. I didn’t know any better. Now I do, or rather I did after the initial churning but just couldne be bothered to rewrite back then. Now I can ……….
Firstly, the fact that I reviewed this hand cream 4 years ago and that I’m still using it just adds to the testimony of this review. And before you jump to conclusions, I am not using the same tube. And I am not still using it because it doesn’t actually work and my hands are taking a while to heal. Huh, some people hey?
Secondly, I’m going to set the scene, take a mo and picture it if you will …….. A cold winters morning. I’m wet and cold. My gloves, moisture laden and saggy are losing the battle to keep my fingers from becoming numb. The icy chill of sub zero temperatures are seeping through to my bones. I yearn for home. I yearn for heat. I yearn to hurry up and post the last bloody letter so I can give into my yearning, get home and have a cup of tea. And thaw out. Not nearly soon enough and even before the last bill actually thuds to a stop on its resting place by a front door, I sit astride my trusty steed [bright red bicycle with a big ugly black tray on the front] and peddle my little heart out in the bid to get home to warmth. To dryness. To comfort. Alas, comfort does not greet me when I return to the loving bosom of my family. The clothes may now be dry, the skin losing its blue hue and returning to a familiar feeling of warmth but the hands still show signs of misuse. They are red and chapped. Sore. The cuticles have argued with my nails and are slowly and painfully trying to meet my knuckles. My hands are a mess. I have the ‘maulers’ of a fishwife. [Are you picturing the scene? Can you see me bent double, cradling my hands as I sit in the chair in front of the fire, slowly rocking as I quiver and moan with pain ……….. Well, if you can, you are as nutty as I am but I thank you for your commitment to the cause]
Ok, so it doesn’t quite get as bad as all that, but it could, and has in the past come pretty dam close, let me tell you. Y’see, the reason as to why it doesn’t get as far as the ‘rocking chair quivering’ state is, one we don’t have a rocking chair [wish we did though] and two, prevention is better than the cure. Y’see [again] I slather this stuff all over my mitts before I put my gloves on. Who’s a smart cookie hey?
I say slather, but to be honest, there’s no need to for any actual 'slathering' to be done. You just don’t need to. The cream is thick and slightly gloopy. A little sticky when you first squeeze it out on to your mitts. But of course, depending how much of the 'gloop' you squeeze it disappears pretty much instantly as you rub it in. Leaves no greasy residue. And the stickiness of the initial glooping disappears too. If you squeeze a lot on though, it is harder to rub in and goes all white and just doesn't disappear. Why it goes white I don’t know, since it is actually a clear slightly cloudy colour. And comes out of a tinsy winsy little hole [kinda looks like worm castings the hole is soooooo tinsy winsy!
One thing though, it doesn’t actually mention on the tube that it is a barrier cream. I’ve just taken it upon myself to shut the door before the horse has even woken up.
It doesn't say on the tube either just how much you are meant to use in a single application. Just lets the consumer know that the tube holds over 200 applications. Whether or not their claims are right I don't know? I don't count the amount of 'squeezes' I’ve had the pleasure of before I run out, but I do know that a tube lasts me about 4 months used daily. Mostly twice, some times even thricely. The tube is only 50ml and if my calculations are correct, each application should be around the .25ml mark! Maybe .5cm of the worm casting? Basically I would advise you to experiment with your rationing, you know the size and condition of you hands. You do the math.
This hand cream comes in two varieties. You can get the scented one and the ……… yes, you’ve guessed it ………… the unscented one. I usually plump for the smelly one though. Simply because its nice to have a faint aroma when applying the bod with products dontcha think? Virtually everything I slap on my clothes rack comes with a smell and the odd times I use an unscented one, it is kinda strange. Not natural for me to not smell what I’m putting on. Anyhoo ….. The smell is a soft delicate whiff. No citrusy tones at all, a touch of an exotic fruit maybe, but a fresh clean smell at the same time. It lasts a while too.

The NORWEIGIAN FORMULA branch of the Neutrogena tree boasts a whole range of other products. There’s a stick for your chapped lips [of which I have several of and keep in all of my jackets/coats and bags so that I’m never without one!] A foot cream to deal with dry hard skin [I don’t suffer from either so I’ve not tried this] Hydrating Cleansing wipes, Ultimate moisture Day and Night creams, an Anti Aging hand cream, Moisturising bath products and body lotions. And as the case with all Neutrogena prods, they have been dermatological tested ~ 9 actually and 1 nurse practitioner. Names can be supplied if you so wish?
[Incidentally, the name NORWEIGIAN FORMULA comes about because apparently Norwegian fisherman use something very similar with regards to the ingredient content]
The style of packaging for the NORWEIGIAN FORMULA doesn’t vary from product to product. The container is usually bright white plastic with a Norwegian flag on a blue square. Maybe not ground breaking inspiration in the world of marketing but once you’ve used this product first, you know to simply look for the flag on the shelving. Its distinctive and it does its job.
Ingredients are pretty run of the mill, and a after a quick looksee, I see no mention on the dreaded Lanolin that so many have to worry about.
A couple of years back, between jobs, I filled my days standing behind the No7 counter at Boots [which was a joke in itself, me with make up? HA ……. Does Ronald McDonald conjure up any images?] And for some inexplicable reason, I looked just the person to ask about hand creams. I only wish for those 2 months I was on commission. I lost count of the amount of people that gleefully skipped to the cash till with a tube of Neutrogena in their red damaged hands. I even had a few of them return and tell me the results [I hope my fake smile convinced them that I really did care?!]
Of course, from the people that sought advice, took it and ran to pay, there were a couple that physically paled at the price. Its not too cheap, especially when Boots cleverly stacks their cheaper range right next door. My last tube was a total bargain because I bought it at Savers for £2.99 and it came with a free ‘Lips’ stick [which retails for £2.89] and a small tube of ‘Feet’ [which I think is a trial size and not on general sale?] Usually though I buy it at Boots when I do my monthly shop and so a mere £3.39 isn’t even a spot on an elephants a**e in terms of the final total! At the mo though, there is a 25% reduction [online, not sure in shop?] so you can pick it up for £2.54. [If I find myself in the city in the immediate future, now’s the time to stock up]
It can be found cheaper and I those of you that like a bargain can probably sniff one out.
It is by no means the most expensive on the shelf, but it can’t be considered cheap either. However, when it comes to using something that you know works and can save you from some pain, cost becomes immaterial for me. I mean, how many of you chuck tens of squids on branded wrinkle creams assuming that you’ll have skin as flawless as a mirror in as little as 8 weeks hey?? ;~)
I’m not saying that by using this I have hands to die for, models hands or the hands of a lady that does nothing all day, I haven’t. However they are most certainly not chapped, dry, cracked or painful in anyway. I’ve no hard patches. The cuticles don’t fight with my nails any more [unless I catch a bugger on a letter box ……… Ouch!] and I’m not ashamed of my maulers.
I’ve been using this for a good 4 years now. My Dad, an engineer used to suffer terribly from cracked hands, he uses it now. In fact, he buys his own and doesn’t even baulk at the price, and believe me, if a 5’11 thuggish looking giant of a man [kinda like a white Shrek!!] will spend over £3.00 on what he calls ‘tarts stuff’ ………. Y’know its bloody well worth, and the tube ain't lying.
Stuff you should know ~
Animal Testing ~ According to Neutrogena’s web site, the ingredients that they use have been proven to be safe historically so instead of testing on animals, they perform predictive tests in/on humans. They say that there is always the possibility of a new ingredient being used that might require in depth safety testing and they cannot, do not want to dismiss the possibility that they won’t ever use animal testing.
As this cream has been on sale for several years and the formula remains unchanged, I’m pretty convinced that this product no longer needs to be, or has been tested on animals. While I try and keep away from the worst offenders [Gillette being one of them] my conscience is clear when I slabber this on.

Advantages: Soft and supple hands after only one application. Disadvantages: The cream is very thick and takes a lot of working into the hands.
Our hands need to be moisturised and protected, as they go through so much and they need to look good. I like to take care of my skin especially during the winter months when the skin on my hands tends to become sore and dry. Along with harsh weather our hands are exposed to dirt, chemicals, and if like me they are in water a lot. Hands give away our age, and they can become neglected until they need some attention. As we get older we start to take ... ...take care of ourselves sooner rather than later. I am a busy mum of two, so I don't always get time for myself. I am constantly washing my hands throughout the day as I have to take care of myself and my baby. At times my hands can become sore and dry and it is very uncomfortable. My hands always suffer more during the winter months; the cold weather makes my hands dry even more. So I am always trying different hand creams to try to reduce and prevent ...

This product was made in France, now that’s what I call a European product (European as in ‘European continent’, not ‘European Union’ of course).

...to combat this problem is Neutrogena concentrated hand cream. Being a very manly man, I never thought I would need to use a skin care product. But as a postman, I handle(d) thousands of letters a day, in all sorts of weather and this had taken its toll on my hands. My hands had become dry and what’s worse, very itchy from all this rubbing. Being thoroughly recommended by my better half, I thought I’d give this hand cream a try!

Being concentrated, only a small pea sized amount is required on each hand, to produce the best results. Having thoroughly rubbed the cream in, the first thing I noticed was that my ...

...hand cream. Neutrogena is an American brand that has created many types of weird and wonderful potions including facial, skin and hair products. It was founded in 1930, and is renound for its gentle yet effective products. The company was bought by Johnson and Johnson in 1994 and since then has continued to flourish launching new lines such as Neutrogena-MEN.

This is the concentrated version of the hand cream and it states on the tube that it ‘Instantly relieves dry or chapped hands. Just a dab needed’. A statement I only semi agree with. The hand cream itself is slightly scented, but this is only a light sent and not too over powering. I couldn’t even begin to try and describe what it smells like because ...

Enter Neutrogena Concentrated Hand Cream. I actually possessed this all the time I was using inferior hand cream, but it was tucked away in my bedside cabinet drawer. Not much use there, I suppose. I had used it from time to time in the winter months and been impressed but then I fell by the wayside once the milder weather arrived. So, two weeks ago, I started using it again. What a difference it has made to my hands. They’ve ... ...the night before. Neutrogena Concentrated Hand Cream comes in quite a distinctive red, white and blue 50ml tube. The colours used are not representative of the Union Jack, but the Norwegian flag, which is a red background with a blue cross, edged in white. This is displayed on the front of the tube. It states that it gives immediate relief for dry, chapped hands and this is exactly what it does. The cream is opaque, waxy and sinks in the skin quite ...

Advantages: Great for restoring dry chapped hands to their former glory Disadvantages: Slightly medicated smell and a tiny bit greasy if too much is used.
I have decided to review the Neutrogena Norwegian Formula HandCreamConcentrated which comes in a squeezy bottle.
Price
The norwegian formula handcream was bought from asda for £2.77 for 75ml. The price may vary from store to store so please bare this in mind.
Container
The container is a squeezy type bottle which is flat at the top abit like the toothpaste type containers. It has a screw on lid. The container is mostly white with blue and red as the only other colours. There is a flag type logo which is blue and white and makes the product brand more recognisable.
Information on the container
The product basically tells you that it is handcream which is in a concentrated version so that just a dab is needed to relieve dry chapped hands. It is also dermatologist tested.
On the back of the container it gives ...
Advantages: Heals and protects immediately Disadvantages: None
The Neutrogena Norwegian Formula HandCream- concentrated and unscented works a miracle. Having very dry skin, I suffer from cracked skin on my hands especially around the knuckles but I've never been one to buy handcreams because I thought my normal body moisturiser would be good enough.
The problem came about when the gloves I use to wash the dishes with had a hole and somehow having very sensitive skin, the area around my thumb cracked and it started to hurt. No amount of moisturiser could ease it or heal it. I even resorted to using baby oil at one point and still to no avail.
I remember then, that my mum who has even worse skin than me raving about the Neutrogena Norwegian Formula. If it was good enough to protect the Norwegian fishermen's hands from their harsh weather conditions, surely it can do me some good. So instead ...
I bought NeutrogenaHandCream - unscented, last May when I had been laying the turf in our garden. My hands were so rough you could've sanded planks of wood with them..!
My normal handcream just didn't do anything for them. It just seemed as though I'd not used anything at all.
Drastic measures were needed when my kids wouldn't hold my hands because they felt so horrible.
So after seeing an advertisement about it in a magazine, I bought the Neutrogena, unscented, concentrated, and as I thought, quite expensive.
It cost £4.odd (sorry can't remember the exact price !)for 50ml and 200 applications, which is WAY more expensive than I'd normally pay, but I was desperate.
WOW
That's all I can say really. (Well apart from what I'm going to say next!!)
It is FANTASTIC!
It's quite a thick consistancy and feels a little waxy. You ...
