For some weeks I'd been having an annoyingly itchy and flaky scalp, but no actual dandruff. For some weeks I'd been having an annoyingly itchy and flaky scalp, but no actual dandruff. I don't know why I just carried on using a normal shampoo for such a long time, and then suddenly remembered that there was half a bottle of T Gel Dermatological shampoo in the bathroom cabinet that would surely be worth a try.
Unfortunately I had not kept the outer cardboard box, which seemed like unnecessary extra packaging. I say unfortunately, as the bottle was now half empty. When full, it's easy to read the white lettering on the outside of the bottle against the dark brown colour of the shampoo. But as the level of the shampoo goes down, you find yourself trying to decipher white words on a transparent background, through which you start to see back-to-front words on the other side of the bottle. I gave up. Why don't the manufacturer's dispense with the cardboard box and use an adhesive label on the bottle itself, rather like Herbal Essences do?
I remembered that in the past I had used this much like any other ordinary shampoo, so I squirted a good-sized dollop into my palm. I have quite long hair (longer than in my photograph), so I do need to use a generous amount of any shampoo. The bottle states that the smell is pleasant, but I'm not so sure that I agree. I know not to expect an exotic perfume from a dermatological shampoo, but I can't say I'm fond of the fragrance of T Gel. I can put up with it of course if it improves the condition of my scalp.
As I massaged the shampoo into my hair, I soon found that a good lather was created. I tried to give a bit more attention than usual to my scalp, and left the shampoo on for a minute before rinsing. I had quite a clear recollection that last time I used T Gel I went into work and one of my colleagues took one look at me and said, 'What on earth's happened to your hair?' My hair is quite thick, and I hadn't thought to use a conditioner on that occasion - I can't say why. However, this memory has stuck with me. The shampoo is designed to do the scalp good but does not claim to give you sleek, smooth locks. So I used conditioner after rinsing off the shampoo and realised of course that this also helps to rid hair of the smell of the lovely T Gel. You would think that might have occurred to me when I first used it.
I have used the T Gel shampoo once more since then, one week later, and I can honestly say that I'm not forever feeling the need to scratch my scalp. The irritation has almost completely disappeared, so I shall continue to use T Gel, certainly not more than once a week though. I might try to reduce to once a fortnight, as this is quite a pricey shampoo as well as not being one that does wonders for your hair.
If I continue to use it fairly regularly, I shall soon need a new bottle. I will make sure I keep the cardboard box next time so that I don't encounter difficulties trying to read what is written on the bottle itself!
I can comment on this product's ability to clear dandruff as I do not suffer from dandruff myself.
As I have mentioned, the shampoo is quite expensive, generally around £4 - £5 for a 125 ml bottle. But considering how beneficial it is for your scalp, I think you would expect to pay more than for an ordinary shampoo.

Review of Neutrogena T/Gel Anti-Dandruff Dermatological Shampoo
Advantages: it really works, it is tailored to your hair type, it smells pleasant Disadvantages: a bit pricey, overpackaged
...Tesco.
T/Gel is a Neutrogena brand product, which seems to ensure it will be more expensive than other brands owned by the parent company, Johnson & Johnson. A 125ml bottle comes in at £4.28 from Tesco. It seems there are quite a few varieties of this treatment shampoo available nowadays, and also some conditioners. On the day I visited, Tesco only had the variety for Normal to Dry hair in stock, but fortunately that is my hair type. I was relatively ... ...light blue colour, with the Neutrogena logo in a black band near the bottom, and the T/Gel name on a white band near the top. Just under the latter, is the yellow band proclaiming this to be Anti-Dandruff for Normal to Dry Hair, in a number of languages. This band varies in colour depending on the particular variety of T/Gel you choose. The multi-lingual theme continues with all the usual blurb about Indications, and Cautions (not to get it in your ...

I came across Neutrogena T-Gel Anti-Dandruff Dermatological Shampoo, whilst on one of my regular visits to Boots.
The name Neutrogena was one that I was familiar with as my wife uses some of there skin products. Therefore I had no qualms whatsoever in showing a little interest in the product and giving it a right look over prior to purchasing it.
Johnson & Johnson manufacture Neutrogena so there is no doubting the quality aspect of the ... ...to wash your hair with Neutrogena T-Gel Anti-Dandruff Dermatological Shampoo, every day for at least one week. You can then reduce it to once every two days if you want and the dandruff will not appear. For those of you who like to wash you hair very frequently then that’s not a problem as the formulations allows this.
I have been using it now for about a month and infact last week I didn’t wash my hair for four days, because I had the ...

...saw a TV ad for Neutrogena T/Gel, therefore, I determined to buy a bottle the very next time I passed a chemist's.
Then I saw the price, and changed my mind. It was only after several weeks' dithering (and head-scratching) that I eventually made my purchase. The price is simply staggering. A 125ml bottle costs £4.28 in Tesco - and they had a sign beside it boasting that they were cheaper than Boots, who sell it at £4.99. The 250ml size costs £7.50. ... ...else!'.
There are varieties for Normal/Greasy and Normal/Dry hair, as well as one formulated especially for an itchy scalp. My local branch of Tesco only stocks the Normal/Greasy (differentiated from Normal/Dry by a green rather than yellow band on the box), so that's what I bought. I wonder now whether one of the others would have been a better choice.
It all looks very clinical: a no-nonsense white and blue box with plain black text. The instructions ...
