Around new year, I was using Tressemme shampoo and conditioner, and I noticed that my psoriasis was getting really bad, although I didn't put two and two together for a while, blaming the flare-up on the cold weather.
I was using my scalp application for about a month, but if anything it was just making it more painful and itchy. It was also getting to be a very embarrassing problem, because it looked like I had very bad dandruff and I wasn't doing anything about it! If I put my head on a couch cushion at my boyfriend's house, I left a nice sprinkly surprise for the next person...
I'd used T/Gel before when I was around 10 years old because that's when I was first diagnosed with psoriasis, but back then I couldn't really judge its effects too well because I'd never had a flare-up as bad as this before. My mother recommended that I use it, and at this point I was willing to try anything.
I did some research on how this shampoo is meant to work, and the coal tar ingredient is said to delay skin cell reproduction. Psoriasis is the product of the skin producing as much skin in 2 or 3 days as it would in 20 days, so it's like 10 times the amount of skin which scabs up and itches. T/Gel therefore was the perfect answer.
It doesn't come cheap though. I didn't buy it myself, my mother did, but I've seen the price range from £6 - £7 and the bottle isn't big. I'd only use it when I get psoriasis attacks rather than all the time. Coal tar is apparently a carcinogenic as well so I probably don't want to use it all the time anyway...
Before I used T/Gel, every night that I went to bed, my head became unexplainably hot and that made it itch very very badly. I'd be up all night trying to ignore it, but ended up scratching it in my sleep, when I did eventually fall asleep. So in the morning my head was very sore and the Tressemme stung when I used it.
The night I used T/Gel was like a salvation. It didn't make much of an aesthetic difference at first; I was still flaking like mad, but I didn't itch at all when I went to bed.
I continued to wash my hair with it every two days for the next month/6 weeks and all the flakes are now gone, and my head is back to normal. This really has been a very valuable product for me.
A lot of people on here have complained about the smell, but my personal preference is that I like it. It is quite a strong smell, but it smells quite mediciney, which is reassuring in my mind.
An awesome side effect of this shampoo is that the psoriasis that was spreading down my face and my neck cleared up as well.
Tip: This shampoo will make your hair quite dry and matted, thus quite difficult to comb or brush after use, so I recommend using plenty of conditioner after rinsing out the T/Gel. I use Head and Shoulders Damage Rescue which I smother all over my hair and leave for a while. I'm a teenager, and it doesn't make my hair greasy for ages so it is a good action plan.

Advantages: A girl needs to be able to flick and swish her hair around without flakes! Disadvantages: Smell is off putting, the price is a bit much for us poor students.
