For a little while I've been suffering from a seriously flaky scalp. Not attactive. I'd been using own brand anti dandruff shampoos for a few months but these gradually became less and less effective as time went on and they had a nasty side effect of making my hair rather heavy and difficult to manage.
I decided to try Neutrogena T Gel because I love the normalising shampoo and conditioner, and figured that anything that makes me feel that good when I use it must have an effective stable-mate in this therapeutic shampoo. The only thing that put me off trying it initially was the price, but I got my tesco club card points through and thought I would give it a go.
The product comes in two sizes - I have bought the 125ml bottle to date but I may be brave and get the larger one (Ithink that's 250ml) in the future. I pay about £3.20 for the little bottle and the larger one is about £5.20.
On reading the back of the bottle they do warn you that the active ingredient is coal tar, so if you have any sensitivity to it then you should try something else. I'm not sure how you know if you're sensitive to coal tar without spending lots of time hanging around coal mines, or just trying the product. They also warn that temporary tinting of blonde, or coloured hair may occur.
On opening the bottle you can tell that there is an unusual ingredient in the product due to the smell. It is not unpleasant; I would call it medicinal. The shampoo itself is a rich chocolate brown colour and is very thick in texture - it tends to come out of the bottle in blobs rather than running smotthly. The back of the bottle advises using a big blob and leaving it on for a few minutes to allow it time to work. It lathers well and is easy to work into your hair and head. I like to use a wide toothed comb to ease out the tangles before rinsing through and despite the thick nature of the shampoo I was able to comb through easily enough. One morning I didn't have time to condition as well (I know - cardinal sin) but after rinsing through my hair felt quite soft still - not as easy to brush after it was dry but still quite manageable.
But does it work...? Yes it does. I have been a lot less ichy, noticeably less flaky and the mop is pretty healthy looking despite needing a really good cut. The only down-side is the unusual smell and the fact that I think it may darken the colour of fairer headed people.
Recommend for anyone needing relief from flakyness - a better standard of anti dandruff shampoo!

The smell of this is awful but it works extremely well. I can always count on Neutrogena products. Good review!

I suppose it's worth it's money if it works well! Rebecca Xx

Very helpful review! When I had my hair down too my waist, I had a real flake problem -then I cut it really short, and now it's down to my chest but they haven't come back. If they ever do I will remember this one :)
