Introduction
This game was first released in 2009. The game was originally built for the Wii console but the games can now be bought for a range of consoles, such as the Nintendo DS. I bought a Nintendo Wii about two years ago. I am always looking for new games to play on it. One mario game came with the bundle which i originally bought and i was very happy with the game. When i first saw this game come out i knew straight the way that me and my friend would love it. It looked great on the advertisement, and looked fun and exciting which i am always looking for in a game. The thing which caught my eyes most was the fact that 4 players could play together which is great for me as i usually have family members wanting to play.
Gameplay
This game is really good and once i am on it, it is hard to get me away! The game consists of lands such as desert, beach, volcano, which you have to work your way through. Each level consists of games which you follow the path to get the bowsers castle at the end of each level. Each game can last ages especially if you keep dying, like i do on certain games! The great thing about this Mario game is the fact it is the first one to contain the "Super Guide" feature which i will come onto later. The playability is great and is easy to work once you know what the controls are. The playability is great. The game means you can play in multiplayer mode or just single mode so the choice is yours. Over all i think that the Gameplay and playability is great and couldn't be better. I love this game lots which i will explain more in the rest of the review! Overall i have rated the gameplay and playability excellent because it is excellent for all the points above!
Plot
At the start of the game, a video is shown where Princess Peach gets kidnapped by Bowser and Bowsers children who are with him, (the Koopalings & Bowser Junior). Just after Mario, Blue Toda, Luigi, and Yellow Toad start to celebrate Princess Peach's birthday in her Princess castle, a massive cake rolls through the party. Soon after, the Koopalings and also Bowser junior pop out and throw the cake on top of Princess Peach, meaning she is trapped. The cake is put onto Bowser's airship which they arrived in and it takes off straight the way, with Mario, Luigi, and the Blue and Yellow Toads left behind trying to chase the airship. The Toads in the castle give them new items to the players, such as the Propeller Mushrooms and Penguin Suits via a cannon which appear throughout the game for use. This is where the game begins and you have to travel through the eight worlds on a mission to get Princess Peach back.
After you travel over the eight worlds fighting Bowser and his helpers, the Mario Bros and the two Toads get to Bowser's "fiery lair" and there you have to defeat him. After Bowser is defeated in his lair, the Mario brothers and the Toads discover that "Princess Peach" was Kamek dressed up as Princess Peach. Bowser then re-appears and starts to chase Mario and the others back through his castle.
At the end of the chase through his castle, the Mario Brothers find Peach trapped in a cage next to a large switch. You then push the switch and Bowser fall's through the floor, after Peach is released from the cage and saved from Bowser and his children. The game is then finished and the credits are then shown to end the game.
=Aim of the game=
During the game the aim overall is to save Princess Peach from the hands of Bowser and his children. Throughout the game you should also aim to collect as many coins as you can (there are thousands),and also collect star coins which appear 3 times per game and are hidden. You can also aim to find exit holes which lead you to more coins or special features such as the ice packs so you can shoot enemy's with ice to kill them, or set them in ice cubes. In between two or three games, you can enter the treasure hut as i call it, and win special features as i just mentioned such as the helmets to help you glide through the game!
Graphics
Graphics on the game are great! My ideal set of graphics would be bright, fun and new and that is exactly what the game graphics consist of. The graphics are really bright and fun which makes you want to play the game even more. There are loads of different graphics on each game and each level, and there are none re-used so i really like them. The different graphics means that when i am playing i am engaged with the game. If you have saw the advert or the front of the game case the game graphics are exactly like that. The colours are shown amazingly when playing the game on your TV. The game looks great when you are playing on it! The starting video through to the ending credits the picture quality is fab, and i dont think it could be better! That is why i have rated the picture quality of the graphics as excellent!
Sounds
The sounds on the game are great. The quality again also helps if you have a good TV to play it on. The sounds are vibrant, new, and classic. The sounds are throughout the game which makes the game fun in my eyes. The sounds at the start come from the beginning video which are quite loud and fun to get you into the game, if you have previously played the game the game starts from the menu which is the same track all the way through, therefore if it is left on the music can be quite repetitive, but usually you just click start and there is no need for the repetitive music. The sounds are good in the game, and are not repetitive in any way, so playing the game does not get annoying. The sounds which are the characters voices, are realistic and sound good, which is what you want. The voices can repeat words but not over the top so you don't really notice. Overall i think that the sounds of the game are great, mainly because they don't repeat and they are bright and vibrant which gets you into the game more!
Value For Money
I bought the game for just over £35 which is quite alot for a game but i didn't mind because i tested the game out of a friends before hand and i loved it.
At the end of the day i feel that you pay for quality and this game has great quality and that is why the game is quite a bit of money. The game is great for multiplayer activities, fun, entertainment, and long lasting gaming. The game is £33 (preowned) or £38.99 (new) in Argos at the minute which is around the same price for which i bought it for, which shows how the price hasn't gone down. At the end of the day it isn't the 6th top selling Wii game for nothing! I have rated the value for money as good because it is great, but might be quite expensive in some people's eyes. The game can be found in a red box unlike the usual white Wii game cases to show the game is different and great in general!
Difficulty
I have to admit the game difficulty is quite high for this game. I am a younger female adult and in my spare time i do love to play games with the family, i am not a expert gamer so i might find certain games hard. The levels on this game get harder as you get along the worlds. The easiest being the first world, and the hardest being the last world and when you get to fight bowser for the last time. The difficulty is quite hard once you past the third level and despite the age range from 3+ a three year old could not play this game through to the end at all in my eyes. The game gets easier if you have two or more players because i means that more people can fight the same number of enemies, and also if you die the other players can save you with the new super guide feature, or Luigi saves the single player and guides them through the level. I have rated the difficulty as average because it is quite easy until you get to the middle, and also i think other gamers may find it easier.
Super Guide
This is the first Mario game on the Wii to include the new Super Guide feature. This feature gives players another chance if they are to die during one of the levels in the Super Mario Bros. game. When playing in single player mode, you can die up to eight times during a game, after that a green block appears on the screen, then allowing Luigi (who is computer controlled) to show the player a safe way through the level, until the end. During the super guide mode the player may take over at any time and take control of the character Luigi. The take over is great, but doesn't give you the cheat exit holes which you can find yourself during the game or the star coins (3 per game). After the Super Guide has took over the game you can decide yourself whether you want to replay the game and do it yourself or move onto the next level. This feature can now also be found on other games in the Mario range.
Longevity
This game does last quite a long time, well it does for me anyway, but i think once the game has been played it has been. That might be people's views but i have gone round and started the game again because i love it. The game is different if you take different routes, find new coins or are playing with someone else. At the start of the game there are also mini-games (thats what i call them anyway) which give you tasters of certain levels and i love playing them over again.
The game is really exciting and i love playing it again and again, but obviously others may not want to, this is why i have rated the longevity as good!
Mulitplayer
Multiplayer on this game is great! You can play the game with up to four players which is one of the reasons i first purchased the game. The first player is always Mario, therefore if you are playing single player you are Mario. After that the other players can choose from being Luigi or the yellow or blue toads. Multiplayer is great and in my eyes the more players the easier the game is to play because there are more people on the same amount of enemy's. The game is really adapted to play multi-player and i love it. The multiplayer means that you can play the game with family members or friends at ease! I have rated the multiplayer functions as Excellent because i dont think that they could be any better!
Overall
Overall i love this game and i dont think it could be any better. This is my favourite game for on the Wii by far and i don't feel i will ever get bored of it. The game has fantastic sound and graphic quality which makes the game better to play. The game is quite a bit but i definitely feel it is worth what you pay for it. I would recommend this game to anyone who asked me. Thanks for reading and rating everyone, much appreciated :)
