Ive also seen details on a new internet only account with looks very good.

Advantages: Friendly, helpful staff. Great service, and a nice warm branch! Disadvantages: The branch was a bit on the cramped side, but now we're getting really picky.
My local branch of the Newcastle is in Liverpool.
It was a rainy (no change there then!), dull Saturday morning when I entered the branch on Castle St. I was the only person in the (quite small) branch. I had come to open a savings account. The branch was very warm, friendly and inviting, and my application was processed in no time at all. The ID I had brought hadn't been the exact requirement, but one quick call by the cashier was all it took. ... ...2 days later).
I can recomend the Newcastle 100%, and would be very suprised if they let you down. their web site, www.newcastle.co.uk offers one of the best internet savings accounts around, backed up with 24 staffed lines.

Advantages: Very efficient and helpful Disadvantages: No branches in London
The NewcastleBuildingSociety is great for mortgages. We have never had any problems with them and the service when I have phoned up with queries is very good.
We have had our mortgage with the NewcastleBuildingSociety for about 5 years (taken out via a broker) and have re-mortgaged with them twice since the mortgage was originally taken out. We live in London and there aren't any branches of the NewcastleBuildingSociety here but this hasn't been a problem since the call centre is so good.
The mortgage rates from the NewcastleBuildingSociety are very competitive. When we took the original mortgage deal out everything was dealt with very efficiently and the paperwork was done quickly. Since then when we have re-mortgaged, again all paperwork was done very quickly and efficiently.
I would definitely recommend ...
Advantages: do not have to have a branch nyou to open an account Disadvantages: if you happen to loose your log on material, you might be stuck
When i first thought about trying out an online bank i tried most of the "big" named branches, but most of them did not seem to offer an account which offered much more in the way of interest on your account than a local branch of a bank/buildingsociety.
I then discovered newcastlebuildingsociety, who at the time where just starting to launch their first online account. I sent away for details and they arrived at my home within three days. The leaflets all explained about the new account and how easy it was to manage.
As a gesture of good will they even offered to hold the interest rate at a higher level for the first few customers.
I then decided to open an online account and filled out all the forms(online) and sent back my direct debit agreement. Within two weeks my account was open.
The account still pays a high rate ...
Advantages: Accepted in most places, easy to sign up to & use, no purchase fee Disadvantages: Have to pay to take your money out at the end (thats if you have any left!) No money security
you a secure one so you will remember it so much more than getting yet another pin number.
Once you have submitted your details and you have received confirmation you have been successful you should get your card within a week. When you get this you don?t have to ring to activate it or anything just login on to the website and confirm receipt of the card you are then ready to rock and roll!
The account is supplied by the NewcastleBuildingSociety and any monies over £1,000 you choose to hold on the account is not covered by them or the FSA so once you get your card be extra security careful.
HOW TO LOAD MONEY ON TO THE CARD
Once you have received your card you will already have the £10 credit on the card in whatever currency you have chosen. You will also have a direct debit setup from your bank to the card so you don?t have to ...
