As a former undergraduate and postgraduate student of Newcastle University, I say it is a good institution with some excellent staff and resources in a fantastic city.
Talking to other students from the same courses at other Universities I found that they were less informed and less organised. Many of them had tales of poor administration: applications ignored or lost or left to the last minute.
I, on the other hand, had top class tutors who knew exactly what was happening outside the University and made sure the courses were as relevant to us, and not their own research purposes, as possible.
Don't forget Universities are now inspected as schools are and it should be possible to read the reports at dfee.gov.uk
I chose Newcastle because the course seemed a good balance of traditional and modern elements - and the same is true of the city. Newcastle has a lot of history and personality. Be warned! Come here from the South and you might never want to return.
