I've been shopping with Next Directory for quite a few years now and find it useful when I need things in a hurry and don't have time (or the inclination with children in tow) to go into my nearest town. This usually happens when, having known for weeks that I'm going out on Friday night with friends, I decide on Thursday that I've nothing to wear!

* Courier delivery on most items (not bulky household things) - my local courier is fab, she gets to know her customers like friends and knows where my goods can be left safely if I am out. This is unlike some carrier networks who give a hurried knock and are off like a shot, leaving you to make several phone calls and re-organise your life in order to get your goods re-delivered!

It works out more expensive as you have to pay a delivery charge, but as those of you who have, or have had toddlers, will appreciate, you just CANNOT shop for clothes when little ones are present!
Aside from the sheer convenience of ordering goods before 5pm one day and receiving them the next, here are the things I like about Next Directory...
Courier delivery on most items (not bulky household things) - my local courier is fab, she gets to know her customers like friends and knows where my goods can be left safely if I am out. This is unlike some carrier networks who give a hurried knock and are off like a shot, leaving you to make several phone calls and re-organise your life in order to get your goods re-delivered!
Clothes come neatly wrapped and in many cases on hangers, so they are not completely creased and crumpled. Quality is good as you would expect from a highly trusted brand.
Easy ordering either online or by telephone. If using the telephone it's often wise to have a few options jotted down in case items are out of stock, although call centre staff are good at letting you know when stock is due in and can reserve things for you.
If you want to avoid the delivery charge, you can get your order delivered to your nearest Next store for FREE, handy if you work in a town centre.
The directory is clearly set out with fold-out tabs to separate the sections; ladieswear, menswear, childrenswear and branded wear (this is a relatively new addition, featuring clothing from, amongst others, 7 for all mankind, levis, firetrap, adidas). The home section has been expanded and moved to its own book which you will receive along with the fashion directory.
The information guide at the back is easy to follow and well set out. I used the sizing guides recently when ordering some jeans for my 11 year old daughter and we had no trouble getting a perfect fit!
The directory always looks smart, I'm not ashamed to have it gracing my coffee table!
The pictures are clear and the colours good. I ordered bathroom towels 18 months ago and successfully matched up the colours in the book to the little glass mosaic tiles around my bathroom!
Information provided about items in the directory is displayed simply and clearly. I appreciate having the fabric content listed alongside the price and codes of the clothes and shoes.
Payment is easy with a range of options: online, in store, by post, by telephone or using the automated telephone service "SelfServe".
Returns can be made in a number of ways to suit you: at a post office, courier collection (you can arrange a convenient time), or to a store.
Try before you buy - you have 10 days to decide if an item is right and goes with the rest of your wardrobe, or fits with your colourscheme.
And those little niggles...
The weight of the directory - can't tell you exactly how heavy as I don't have any suitable scales on which to weigh it - but trust me you wouldn't want to drop this on your foot! This is a nuisance as it is rather unwieldy even though the hardback format does look good.
Delivery cost - £3.75 or £3.99 on Saturday. More expensive than the car park or the park and ride in town!
The Verdict ----------------
A substantial, classy-looking catalogue selling a wide-range of goods from a trusted high street retailer. Convenient delivery, payment and returns options but at a cost, unless you can collect from a store.
Advantages: up till now loved the shop Disadvantages: telephone service terrible
...loyal and good customer at next directory for over 7 years, but tonight I was astonished by the way their customer service representative spoke to me.I wanted to have a order delivered to a store, rather than home. I had a query about store delivery option, as the website kept taking me back to the basket page. From the moment she answered she wanted to presume all my answers, never listened to what I was trying to ask/say and when I tried to ask ...
