Advantages: Interesting and well written book Disadvantages: Technically occasionally over my head!

Another book recommended to me, this time by my Dentist. He raves about this author and as I'm due for a check up next week I thought I better give it a go.
About the author:
MichaelCrichton was born in Chicago in USA on 23rd October 1942. He was probably best known as the author of 'Jurassic Park' and the creator of 'ER'.
His first best seller 'The Andromeda Strain' was published while he was still a Medical Student. He has written 20 Novels, two screenplays and has sold over 150 million books worldwide.

I've just finished reading "Next" and I actually thought it was a really good read.
It does take a slightly different approach to Crichton's previous novels, and perhaps that's why others haven't found it as good.
"Next" covers many controversial subjects that some might find difficult to get their heads around with but I found the novel informative and his academic writing style rather enjoyable
The book illustrates through its narrative, science's perpetual desire to discover and learn more about human genetics.
It refreshingly moves beyond the ethics concerned with genetic modification and tries to build a holistic picture about the current state and future of genetic research.

To this day, I can still remember going to the cinema as a 10 year old to watch Jurassic Park. Like many children of that time, I was fascinated by dinosaurs and the special effects were like nothing I had ever seen before. At the time I saw it solely as a really good film and knew nothing of it coming from a best selling book by an author called MichaelCrichton.
As I got older I gradually became more aware of Crichton through films, TV and I slowly became aware of him as an author, although I had never sat down to read one of his books until a few months ago. On that occasion I was reading 'State of Fear', a great read based around the science of Climate Change.
