Spongebob Squarepants is a sea sponge. He just happens to look like a big yellow car sponge. He is square in shape, and the only item of clothing he wears is a pair of trousers, designed to accommodate his angular form – hence his surname. He lives inside a pineapple under the sea in the town of Bikini Bottom, and works at the Krusty Krab fast food restaurant, run by Mr. Krabs. Spongebob is a cheerful, enthusiastic chappie, who loves his job and loves Krabby Patties – the delicacy served at the Krusty Krab.
Spongebob shares his home with his pet, Gary. Gary is a pink and green sea snail, with eyes on stalks, but, strangely, he miaows like a cat. Gary is a loyal pet to Spongebob and is very intelligent.
Spongebob’s best friend is Patrick Star, who lives under a stone, two doors down from Spongebob. Patrick is a slightly chubby pink starfish, who is very lazy and loves ice cream. Despite his pinkness, Patrick is not the brightest star in the sea, and Patrick’s naivety, combined with Spongebob’s boundless enthusiasm, is often conducive to the pair finding themselves in all sorts of scrapes.
Sandy Cheeks is another of Spongebob’s friends. Sandy is the only character who is not a sea creature: she is, in fact, a squirrel. In order to visit her friend Spongebob, she wears a diving suit. Sandy likes extreme sports and martial arts.
Spongebob’s next-door neighbour, and colleague at the Krusty Krab, is Squidward Tentacles, a multi-limbed, miserable squid. Squidward is the grumpy old man of Bikini Bottom and often finds Spongebob annoying, which is unfortunate, as when you work with and live next door to the bane of your life, there is no escape from him!
There have been over 60 episodes of Spongebob made so far, with a variety of stories – most of which involve Spongebob and one of his friends getting into some kind of a scrape. In one of my favourite episodes, Spongebob and Patrick accidentally catch the wrong bus and end up in the dead end town of Rock Bottom. Patrick manages to catch the bus back, but Spongebob misses the bus. The rest of the episode focuses on his efforts to get back to Bikini Bottom. In another show, Spongebob makes it his business to try to get Squidward to sample a Krabby Patty. Squidward maintains that he doesn’t like Krabby Patties (although he has never tried them). Even when the patties start to look appealing to Squidward, he doesn’t want to let Spongebob see that he was right all along, and we see his efforts not to let on that he is actually dying to try one. Another, particularly amusing episode features Spongebob arranging a party for all his friends, planning events by the minute, down to the most minute detail, so as to try and ensure that everyone has a good time.
Although this show is obviously meant primarily for children, like so many cartoons these days (e.g. The Simpsons, Ren and Stimpy) it is very clearly on two levels, and the humour, although slapstick in places, is often hilarious and will appeal to many adults. I am not normally a fan of cartoons, but after seeing this strange yellow sponge and his pink, pointy friend everywhere I looked in America, I was intrigued, and after watching a couple of episodes I was hooked! As an example of the clever humour, one of my all-time favourite situations in the show was when Spongebob was invited to a party, but he was unable to read the invitation, as the ink had been smudged through being underwater. Spongebob laments the fact that “people just don’t understand the problems of living under the sea” and promptly throws the invitation onto a small campfire, merrily burning away in front of him. I am sure that a lot of children would not appreciate this joke, or indeed many of the others in the show, but it would still be suitable for children who would like the colourful characters and slapstick humour.
Another reason why this should also appeal to adults is that the characters are all individuals, and we probably all know someone like each of them in real life. Terminally cheery Spongebob, cynical Squidward, feisty Sandy, and well-meaning, sensitive, but not-very-bright Patrick will doubtless remind us of people we have met, and they are all appealing in their own way. For all that we feel sorry for Spongebob when others don’t share his enthusiasm, we can totally sympathise with Squidward who just wants to be left alone, rather than being hassled by an over-enthusiastic sponge, however well-meaning.
Spongebob is regularly shown on the Nickelodeon channel, available on Sky, with at least three episodes being shown each day. Spongebob is a huge star in the US, and when I visited Universal Studios last year there was all manner of Spongebob merchandise available. He is slowly becoming more popular in the UK, and there are a number of DVDs, a computer game, several books, greeting cards, soft toys and various other merchandise becoming available. I was the proud recipient of a miaowing Gary at Christmas and I recently bought my other half “The Spongebob Squarepants Survival Guide” which is an absolutely hilarious book, featuring such gems as “How to motivate a starfish”, “How to avoid getting covered in algae”, “How to remove barnacles from yourself” and “How to avoid drying out”. The book made us laugh out loud on almost every page, and once again, most of its content will be wasted on children, although the brightly coloured cartoon pictures will no doubt appeal.
A Spongebob movie is planned for release later this year, and I hope that he gains more popularity before then so that his film debut will be a success.

And in case you’re wondering about the title, here are the first two lines of Spongebob’s theme song:
Who lives in a pineapple under the sea? SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS! Absorbent and yellow and porous is he! SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS!
SpongeBob SquarePants is a cartoon that kids love. It's all about a sea sponge that lives under the sea in a pineapple. He wears trousers and a red tie, oh and of course...underpants...in my opinion, this is good.
SpongeBob lives with his pet snail, Gray. Gray can not speak, but does say: "Meow." I think that it's nice that a snail can say something!
S.B. lives next to Squidward, his neighbour that find him very annoying. There's always one character!
... ...He is very stupid, in my opinion, this is great because kids like slapstick comedy.
Then, there's Mr. Krabs, S.B.'s and Squidward's boss, S.B. and S work at the Krusty Krab, a fast food store.
There's an evil person called Plankton, a piece of Plankton, who's always trying to steal the "Krabby Patty" formula, the Krabby Patty is the best burger under the sea! Plankton runs a fast food store, that never gets customers.
Sandy Cheeks is one of S.B.'s ...

Advantages: Characters - Feel Good Factor - Stories Disadvantages: Length - too short.
I just love this Cartoon! It's probably the most witty and intellegent cartoon I've seen in a long time. It appeals to young children and also to older people (Like me) on a different level.
What's it about?
It's all about a sea-sponge called "Spongebob Square Pants" who lives under the sea. He works in Crusty Burger, has a pet snail called Gary and a best friend (Patrick). No matter what happens, Spongebob always looks on the bright side of things. ... ...Spongebob's neighbour is a angry-grouchy type called Squidward who hates Spongebob and everything he does. Yet Spongebob doesn't realise this and thinks they are great friends.
Is it funny?
I think so! Spongebob gets himself into all these situations, that always turn out to be disasters - with hilarious consequences.

Join SpongeBob (a yellow sea sponge who lives in a pineapple under the sea with his pet snail Gary) and his friends; Patrick Starfish (SpongeBob’s best buddy and next door neighbour, he lives under a rock. Who can't love a yellow sponge that lives in a fruit in the ocean named Spongebob Squarepants? Well, if you think you wouldn't, read on.
The unexplainable simplicity of Spongebob Squarepants makes it the hilarious show many strive to watch. For months this entertaining, humorous animation lead in the ratings, eventually being beat by the O'Rielly factor. Never the less, his ratings continue to soar, for reasons on the many thousands of loyal viewers ... ...seen him. Well read this then watch him again!
Lets face it. Spongebob Squarepants is the absolute dumbest show you've ever seen. From fire burning underwater, to classic conversations such as the one that follows:

Once there was an ugly barnacle. He was so ugly that everyone died. The End!
Spongebob - That dint help at all...
Everyone loves Spongebob. It is well written nevertheless, ...

Advantages: Value for money, great shows. Disadvantages: Adverts.
When Nickelodeon started, it had a range of kids shows. Babies, kids and teens. But today, Nickelodeon only shows programmes for kids and teens; this is because of Nick Jr.
QUALITY OF PROGRAMMES
The quality of the programmes is great. Old shows like The Amanda Show (2000) don't have the best quality. I'm surprised that with HD, they can't make it look better, however with shows like iCarly, (2007-Present) the quality is better. I still think that the quality is great on all the shows is great however.
RANGE OF PROGRAMMING
Nickelodeon mainly shows comedy shows like The Amanda Show, Drake & Josh and iCarly. Cartoons like SpongeBobSquarePants and Fairly Odd Parents are still shown on Nick. I think it's great that Nickelodeon has the same type but all with different storylines. I think that Nick should have more game shows ...

Ok... not many of you may share my views on this, but I certainly think that without Nickelodeon cartoons life would be so much duller.
Nickelodeon have been around for some time, previously airing three channels on digitial TV:
* Nickelodeon
* Nick Replay
* Nick Juniors
However, recently, they have introduced their best channel yet... NickToons TV!!!
NickToons TV airs on digital television from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm. For Sky Digital viewers, this channel is on channel 606.
What's on this channel then?

I should imagine that from the name of the channel you have already gathered that this channel shows only Nickelodeon cartoons.
The cartoons shown on this channel include: 'Hey Arnold!', 'Rugrats', 'SpongeBobSquarepants', 'Real Monsters', 'Angry Beavers', 'The Wild Thornberrys', 'Cat ...
