Nicky Clarke Truffle coloured colour system with honey and beeswax. This is a wash in colour, which will wash out in 15 - 20 washes.
I bought this colour a few weeks ago from Boots, it was £7.00 which is more than the ones I have used before but I was feeling like a treat and not knowing what to buy decided to give myself a lift with a hair colour.
So, why did I choose this one?
...good to me! Nicky Clarke colour works best on dry hair. All the other sorts I have used over the years have said to apply on damp towel dried hair, so this is new for me. They advise to take all jewellery off, I guess it will discolour any jewellery if it gets onto it, so off came mine. They also advise me to protect my clothes, well I am wearing an old black sleeveless tee shirt so with a dark coloured old towel that was good enough. I didn't actually ... more
What am I reviewing?
Nicky Clarke Truffle coloured colour system with honey and beeswax. This is a wash in colour, which will wash out in 15 - 20 washes.
I bought this colour a few weeks ago from Boots, it was £7.00 which is more than the ones I have used before but I was feeling like a treat and not knowing what to buy decided to give myself a lift with a hair colour.
So, why did I choose this one?
Well, it took me ages to choose, I looked at the ones I had used before, then my husband got fed up with wandering around along so came to help me. Of course he picked a couple that were totally different to my natural colour and even a permanent one. I had a pack of my usual colour at home but wanted something a bit different.
I put a wash in wash out colour through my hair a couple of times a year which gives it a lift and covers the few grey strands that mostly seem to be underneath, I look quite the grey old lady when I tie my hair up on top of my head. Generally I use a copper gold colour, finding anything-darker makes it just too dark and un natural looking. The copper gold helps and usually no one notices I have done it, so it must be about right.
Well winter is ending, spring is here, the sun is shining and my hair is looking a bit washed out and faded. Of course, I can see those grey strands even though my daughter says no one else would notice.
The Box!
It is a plastic box, blue in colour, the writing is white and there is a picture of what colour hair will turn when used. I find these a bit odd really because I never knew anyone that had hair the exact colour they recommend for the colour you buy, but never mind.
I bought the Truffle colour, which the box tells me is ideal for use on medium blond to light brown hair. I would describe my hair as chestnut, although if I use a chestnut named colour it always ends up several shades darker than it started.
Inside the Box!
A set of instructions, blue paper with both white and darker blue writing on, a pair of plastic gloves. (I ditched these and used a pair that I found in my pocket after work one day, they are a much better fit), a bottle of developer, a tube of colour and a sachet of conditioner.
Reading Glasses time.
They claim to use "Nicky Clarke colour in their Mayfair salon whenever they want to create a rich, glossy, believable colour. They go on to say that now we can use it at home and get the same kind of look. Apparently it uses gentle, ammonia - free colour and leaves your hair feeling soft and conditioned with their honey and beeswax conditioner which will give it fantastic shine as well."
This sounds pretty good to me! I didn't actually get any of the colourant on my tee shirt or on the old towel but it is best to be prepared and protected.
Application.
First mix the colour, unscrew the developer bottle, open the colour tube, squeeze the contents of the tube into the bottle. No surprises there, I took the top off the tube as instructed, put the top into the open bottle neck and squeezed like mad, nothing happened. Then I remembered that most of these sort of tubes have the end sealed, so had a look, turned the lid upside down, pressed it into the neck of the tube and hey presto! The stuff was coming out. Oh, and it was a pale bright orange colour, hum! I emptied the tube into the bottle, put the lid back on the bottle and shook like mad. It doesn't say shake like mad, but I had music playing and was dancing at the time.
Now, gloves on at the ready and squeeze this gloop all over my hair, then comb through afterwards. I squeezed, rubbed in lightly with my fingers, squeezed some more, eventually the bottle was empty and most of my hair seemed to be damp. Back to the instructions, ah! When all your hair is covered comb through using a plastic wide toothed comb.
Now, oh dear, it didn't tell me to brush all the nights knots out of my hair first did it? I expect most people would have done this automatically but I was multi tasking here, dancing to music, hoovering the house, checking my emails and having a look at a couple of reviews all at the same time, kettle on and make a cup of tea. Anyway, I combed through and found there were quite a few knotty bits of hair that weren't going to let the comb through them. So at this point I thought I would maybe get tie dyed hair, finished making the tea, and went back to the hoovering.
I did check the time, and decided my hair type was normal, partly grey, dark, so they recommend 20 minutes for this sort of hair. I checked the time again and carried on with the housework.
During the development time my head felt slightly warm but there was no tingling or stinging sensation which I have had in the past with another product, so this was good.
Rinsing.
Our shower broke a few years back and never got replaced, so how best to rinse this stuff off my head? I did what I usually do and turned on both kitchen mixer taps, now, they really don't mix that well and so part of my head gets the hot water and part of my head gets the cold, but no matter, it rinses just as well as any other way I have tried. After thorough rinsing it felt a bit harsh so now is the time to apply the conditioner. I tore the sachet across the top quite easily and spread the contents through my hair. This is called, Nicky Clarke Colour Shine Finishing Treatment with Honey. I was about to rinse it off when I read the rest of the instructions which told me to leave it on for five to ten minutes before sensing. So…I went back to the hoovering!
The Result!
Well, my hair is darker, shiny, smooth, and I have never really had smooth hair, it looks good and when my daughter came home, she said "Oh, you have coloured your hair, it looks lovely." She also said "the thing with your hair is it sort of grows in stripes doesn't it." That was surprising. She then said "It has evened out the stripes, the back looks great, let me take a picture." There followed a long conversation about my hair.
The instructions do say if you have shoulder length or long hair it might be better to use two packs, well I didn't read that bit until I had already started, but for hair that just about reaches my bra strap at the back and is quite thick, one pack was just enough. And going back to the knotty problem, no I don't have tie dye effect hair.
On the back of the instructions there is loads of good advice. Like, The lighter your own hair's base colour, the more intense and long lasting the result will be. The darker the base colour, the more subtle it will be.
There is a long list of cautions and the first tells you to read the instructions carefully and use only as directed.
This can be bought from Boots and quite a few independent chemists in my area so not difficult to find.

Do I recommend it?
Yes I do, it is more expensive than products like this that I have used before but for me it definitely seems worth spending the extra money.
Advantages: doesn't contain ammonia, hair feels like a dream Disadvantages: Developer and application bottle - gloves are flimsy
...my hand! STRIKE ONE AGAINST NICKY CLARKE
Adding the colourant to the colour developer wasn't exactly easy either. My tube appeared to have an air pocket or something trapped in it, because I had to REALLY squeeze hard to get the colourant out. STRIKE TWO AGAINST NICKY CLARKE
Finally, I shook the goo in the applicator bottle up, and snapped the top off. The goo wouldn't come out of the spout - despite repeated attempts I ended up applying the goo ... ...assure you. STRIKE THREE AGAINST NICKY CLARKE
The plus side here is that the goo is reasonably thick, so you don't get lots of dribbles of dye on your head! YAY.
~The colour ~
JET BLACK! Just what I wanted. Most people can never see what I'm on about when I moan that my hair doesn't look black, but I know what I mean. This is jet black and I'm happy! ONE HAPPY POINT FOR NICKY CLARKE
~The condition~
OHMYGOD ... my hair feels in WONDERFUL condition. ...

Advantages: The colour looked really nice. Disadvantages: Not a great deal of colour solution provided.
...applied in addition to the Nicky Clarke but the colour had dramatically improved the look and feel of my hair. Also it had completely covered my blonde streaks which really shocked me for a semi permanent colour.
Overall.
I would recommend this product only on the basis that you get someone to do it for you who can blend the colour through. If you try and do it alone you’ll tip the contents of the bottle over one side of your head and have none ... ...simply buy two bottles! I am next time I do it now I know I like the colour. I know its going to be pricey but this really was the nicest result I have had from a home colour. I have only given four stars because of the lack of generosity in the amount of solution supplied. ...

Advantages: Smelt nice, moisturising Disadvantages: Not enough, made hair lank, made hair darker than what it should of done
...would be enough, after all, Nicky Clarke should know what he’s doing and he uses this colour in his salons!
The mixture has honey and beeswax in it, for moisturising and it smelt quite nice, none of that horrid ‘take your breath away’ stench of normal colours.
I started applying to my dry hair, I’d only covered my fringe and the sides of my hair and I’d run out of mixture!! HELP!! I tried massaging it in and combed ... ...and ratty. I would of needed 10 bottles to cover my short hair with it!! After 5mins I noticed my hair getting quite dark and I panicked, this wasn’t supposed to happen!!! I immediately rushed to the bathroom and washed it off. You’re supposed to leave it on for between 15-30mins, depending on whether you have any grey hair or if your hair is dark blonde.
Once I’d dried off, I noticed my pale blonde hair was now, a medium blonde, ...

Advantages: Smells lovely. Great colour and nice conditioner to use after. Disadvantages: Expensive, not much in the bottle. Rubbish gloves.
I spent ages choosing which brand of temporary hair colour to buy. I finally decided on this one "Chili" shade of red as I thought it most closely matched the colour I had on at the moment, Live Colour XXL in Red Energy, which is a permanent colour. I'm having half my hair shaved off in December for an operation so I'm attempting to grow my hair colour out using a temporary colour as I'm naturally blonde and don't fancy half red half blonde hair ... ...I chose this one, despite the price of £7.99 from Boots (I work there so I get a bit of a discount but it's still a lot compared to my usual brand). None of the other brands of temporary colour had a bright red so this was my only option.
It says on the box that it will wash out between 15 and 20 washes, if you have matched your natural hair colour with the one on the box. As mine is medium blonde it might last a bit longer as the box says it's ...

Advantages: Colours are very rich, gentle as well Disadvantages: Not enough, in the pack, Rubbish Gloves
...colours there Garnier,L'Oreal and then Nicky Clarke. I had never used his colours before so I decided to buy it so when the time came to use it I could.
Now Boots normally stock this colour at £7.99 but I was very lucky and got it for a mere .99p! So if you want a bargain go to the bin!!
I got the colour which was called chilli, a rich brown red colour for brunnettes. SORTED!
The packaging is very small but perfectly formed, bright blue opaque ... ...it. So this is where Nicky Clarke Loses points.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The result after she had waited about 30 minutes was very nice, the colour had lifted her base brown colour to a warm spicy red colour, but there still was alot of brown undertone so it wouldnt be to drastic for the not very daring. Bright yet normal and Very Liveble!
Apparently the colour does wash out more after every wash and since it has been a couple of weeks ...
Advantages: Gives great shine Disadvantages: can cause static
A friend recently gave me a bottle of NickyClarkeColour Therapy shampoo and conditioner and complained that after use, her hair was full of static. Although I?m a loyal user of Laboratoire Garniers Fructis shampoo, I?m willing to give anything a try once ?especially when it?s free!
NickyClarke?s ?Colour Therapy? range is a range especially created to enhance the colour of our hair. There are four variants in the range:
- Sweet Like Chocolate (for brown/black hair)
- Blonde Goddess (for blonde hair)
- Take It As Red (for Red Hair)
- Goodness Greycious (for Grey Hair)
Having dark brown hair, the variant I used was ?Sweet Like Chocolate?. So here?s a bit about the product:
Advantages: Lovely to use Disadvantages: Too exspensive
I, myself do not have coloured hair, although I'm interested in highlighting my dark brown lock of hair I still haven't got round to actually geting it done!
So this opinion is written on my mothers behalf who is bless her starting to go grey as she starts to reach her 40's (I didn't just say that and she's not going to find out!!!) My dear old mother has been highlighting her short wispy hair for a few months now and visits the local salon on a more regular basis it seems!
So now if I ever use my mothers shower to shower in, I don't get to nick her nice decent shampoo, I get the coloured/damaged hair shampoo's and conditioners! I've recently noticed on a previous occasion into my mothers shower a new and different, shiny silver bottle of 'NickyClarkColour Therapy Shampoo' in her shower. It looked rather interesting so I asked ...
Advantages: The smell, a classy bottle, shiny hair. Disadvantages: The price, did not leave my hair very soft.
I love chocolate, I love spoiling myself with gorgeous smelling creams and potions, and I am obsessed with my hair! I am on a never ending quest to make it ultra glossy and shiny. My sister kept going on about this amazing chocolate shampoo by NickyClarke but as a skint student I just ignored her and felt a tad jealous.On Saturday though, I felt my student loan burning a hole in my pocket, and wholst in Boots my beady eye spotted a BUY 2 GET 1 FREE deal on all NickyClarkeColour Therapy Products.
I bought a shampoo, conditioner and finishing balm, all in Sweet Like Chocolate (for dark hair) which came to just under £10. Normally it is £4.95 for a 250 ml bottle of shampoo. Quite pricey, I think, but it is so luxurious that maybe it is worth it, I haven't decided yet!
