... Unfortunately, this didn't make me stop either, but it did convince me that it doesn't really make sense to treat a nicotene addiction with nicotene-based products, and this is when my thoughts turned to Nicobrevin.

Advantages: All natural ingredients Disadvantages: Expensive & I wasn't aware of it actually working!
...not hopeful...
Nicobrevin does not contain nicotene. It is made from all-natural ingredients which, combined together, work to take the edge off the various commonly experienced symptoms of nicotene withdrawal. There are four key ingredients in Nicobrevin capsules:
~ Menthyl Valerate (100mg): this acts as a mild sedative, believed to reduce anxiety and the irritability that can occur when giving up smoking.
...nicotene-free existence.
Nicobrevin is taken as a 28 day course of gelatin-shell capsules that come in easy to store blister packs. For optimum results, it is suggested that you follow the daily dosage instructions carefully. These are as follows:
Week 1: ONE capsule in the morning on an empty stomach, then TWO before bed
Week 2: ONE capsule in the morning on an empty stomach, then ONE before bed more
If you're reading this, you might be a smoker thinking about giving up - you might not, of course - but, if you are, I'm guessing the most important thing you want to know is: does this product work?
Purely from my own experience, the answer would have to be a disappointing NO. But it's really not that simple, it's sort of difficult to tell...
Finally giving up cigarettes after years of continually feeding the nicotene monster, day in, day out, is never going to be easy. There are - as you know - no quick-fix solutions. Traditional nicotene replacement products (i.e. gum/patches etc.) have worked for me in the past - but when the course of treatment's over and it's time to brave it alone, I've found myself eventually turning to my old mate Nic' for support.
Then, after listening to several gushing testimonials to the work of the hugely successful Allan Carr, I too picked up a copy of his best-selling "Easy Way to Stop Smoking" and set about quitting armed with nothing more than will-power and Mr Carr's words of encouragement. Unfortunately, this didn't make me stop either, but it did convince me that it doesn't really make sense to treat a nicotene addiction with nicotene-based products, and this is when my thoughts turned to Nicobrevin.
A friend had told me about this all-natural product that is designed to alleviate the withdrawal symptoms experienced during nicotene 'cold turkey'. For him it had worked a treat, so I was nothing if not hopeful...

~ Menthyl Valerate (100mg): this acts as a mild sedative, believed to reduce anxiety and the irritability that can occur when giving up smoking.
~ Quinine BCP 1963 (15mg): it is well known that many smokers are put off quitting because they worry about an increase in appetite and subsequent weight-gain - traditionally used as a remedy for malaria, here quinine is employed for its appetite suppressant qualities.
~ Camphore (10mg): when you first stop smoking, the bronchial passages produce a surplus of mucus to help them recover and basically have a 'good clean out' - camphore helps keep these passageways clear so you can breathe more easily.
~ Oil of Eucalyptus: like camphore, eucalyptus helps the respiratory system to recover and also calms the gastric system which may be experiencing some upset in the first throes of its newly nicotene-free existence.

The capsules are easily swallowed with water and they are suitable for people on lactose/gluten free diets and vegetarians (according to the packet, but as they contain gelatin this is not strictly true). They do contain peanut oil though - so nut allergy sufferers should stear clear.
The accompanying leaflet does say that some minor side-effects may occur such as nausea, headaches or dizziness, but it points out - and this is important - that these are more likely to be the effects of nicotene withdrawal than a direct result of taking Nicobrevin - and that leads me to explain my general lack of enthusiasm for the product:
Whilst taking Nicobrevin I did not feel that my cravings for nicotene were noticeably reduced. I did however experience mild nausea and the odd headache here and there. If Nicobrevin produces side-effects that are indistinguishable from nicotene withdrawal symptoms then surely it's a pretty redundant product seeing as though it is marketed as something to alleviate those very same symptoms.
Was my nausea, then, a side effect of Nicobrevin or merely a symptom of nicotene withdrawal? I'd put it down to the lack of faaags, but it doesn't really matter because - either way - it didn't make giving up smoking any easier! Once again, my naive but ever hopeful quest to find that miracle-aid to giving up the evil weed was quashed. I know now - for sure - that, for ME at least, the only way to go is with will-power alone and maybe the odd sugar-free lolly pop along the way!
Nicobrevin is expensive (though, like most smoking cessation products, relative to the cost of a cigarette habit it's actually quite cheap...) and not that easy to locate. I got my local independent pharmacist to order some in for me at the list-price of 25 GBP and it arrived within a couple of days. I've never seen it on the shelf in Boots or Superdrug. It is, however, widely available on the internet.
The Nicobrevin website at www.nicobrevin.com is currently under reconstruction but more information about the product can be found at various 'stop smoking' type sites such as www.stopsmokingtoday.com.
Giving up smoking is such a personal thing and everyone has to find their own way of doing it, what works for one is by no means guaranteed to work for another (and for the record, I'm still puffing...). If anyone has any Nicobrevin-based success stories though, I'd really like to hear!
Advantages: No nicotine - All natural - They worked a treat for me Disadvantages: None that I noticed
...wife and I turned to Nicobrevin in 1990. I used to smoke between 20 and (on a party night) 60 a day, and had never quite made the break on willpower alone: the first sniff of a pint in a smoky pub, and I was anybody's for a Woodbine.
Having decided we no longer wanted to spend £300/yr/person to smell bad, off we went for a long weekend in the Lakes, armed with a pack of Nicobrevin.
Neither of us finished the course.
My wife has smoked 1 crafty ... ...had any.
Neither of us have ever felt like ex-smokers are s'posed to (always fighting off the craving) more like we had never started.
Placebo effect? Maybe.
Needed a bit of commitment on our part? For sure.
Side effects? Nil.
I have been recommending these non-addictive/nicotine free capsules ever since then. Best £18.00 I've ever spent. ...
