Chewing gum? Smoking? Are they really similar . ... mmmm - well, of course they're not. Do the manufacturers really think that us hardened smokers will be fooled by a piece of chewing gum?? Not a chance.
Nicorette gum is the latest in a long list of different products to try and wean myself off the dreaded weed - yet again without success. The only advantage with the gum is that it really tastes foul, and so does fool your mouth into believing you've just smoked a couple of ciggies!! On the first day I managed to chew my way through a dozen pieces - followed up by 20 cigs - mmm, no savings made there - in fact it cost me more!I do know many people who swear by Nicorette - in fact, I've one friend who gave up smoking by using the gum some 15 years ago - unfortunately, no one tells you how you then break the Nicorette gum addiction - she's still on 20 a day - but 20 pieces of chewing gum, rather than ciggies - still, at least it must be better for your health!!
So, yet another door closed - I've tried the patches, microtabs, herbal ciggies, those stupid 'substitute' cigarettes that make it look as though you're smoking a pen, and everything else on the market - still with no success.Still, not one to ever give up (perhaps not the right phrase to use - or on reflection, perhaps it is) I've just been out and bought Paul McKenna's book on giving up smoking (with free CD - I'm always a sucker for anything free - plus the book was reduced by £2) - so this weekend I shall read the book, listen to the CD, and then my mind will be so re-programmed I shall never need another cigarette again !!!!! I wish - but perhaps this time it will work .....
But as for the gum - I think it's absolute tosh for an addict - not a real substitute at all - sorry Nicorette I wanted to be nice about you, and I have spent lots of money on your gum and patches, but I really don't think you work - well at least not on me.Well, I'm off to smoke myself silly so that I feel really disgusted with cigarettes before I read Paul McKenna - come on Paul I'm relying on you ................. Maggie xxxx
