Fed up of stinking, Fed up of the expense and fed of being branded a smoker I decided to give it a go..
Saying I was quitting was a lot easier than actually taking the big step and not lighting up every morning, noon and night but here I am half way through week two and I really don't have much of a craving and I think this is down to the little itchy patch I have on my shoulder.
When I saw the stop smoking nurse and my surgery (also my work) I estimated I smoked less than 10 a day (thinking about it now it was rarely under 10 and more like 20) but anyway, she started me off on the "step 2" which is the 14mg patches which are to be worn for 24 hours a day.
I got them on prescription and had 3 months supply for only £6.50 (just over the price of a packet of 20 fags) so really it is very cheap. I did also get the inhaler to have along side but I haven't used it much.
So there is a weeks supply (7 patches) in a box they come individually wrapped and there is also a instruction booklet inside which to be honest I haven't really read as I think the whole thing is really self explanatory and I know that I am not allergic to anything.
So I have been applying one every morning and was changing it the following morning but after my first review (and having not smoked at all) I told the nurse I had been getting some really vivid dreams that had been disturbing my sleep quite a lot so she said it was probably the patches so the best bet was to take the patch off each night before I went to bed and hopefully the dreams wont be so bad.
Having the patches on is fine, at first I seemed to come up in a rash but I have positioned the clear patch on a tougher bit of skin that doesn't get irritated as much.
The first hour that the patch is on it does seem to itch quite a bit but it soon settles down. On removing the patch the skin underneath appears really red and stays like this for quite a while after the patch is off I suppose this is where the nicotine has been trying to get into the system.
It does leave a really nice sticky mark on your skin and the packet says that it is not a good idea to keep applying a patch to the same bit of skin, I am assuming this is to give the skin a bit of a break.
At first I did have a bit of trouble with getting the patch to stick to the skin but now I have it sussed the patch seems to stick well and truly solid!
Well I am happy with the way things are going and these patches really do seem to be doing the job for me. As first I was getting a bit ratty but I have calmed down and am settling into the life of being a non-smoker and I am loving the fact I can taste my food a bit better!!!
Still have no money though!!!!!
So of course I would recommend these patches to everyone who smokes as giving it a try is better than not.
