Wierd and Wacky dreams

Having tried the Microtabs, which are vile things (see opinion), I went to the doctors to get some patches on prescription. This was not easy - the doctor wanted me to join their no smoking clinic, another session was not available for a couple of months, before giving me anything. This was apparently to prove I really wanted to give up. I explained that I had already given up, tried using tabs, and was finding it almost impossible. I persuaded him ... ...work and that a group of us had given up together, so we had our own support group. Eventually he gave in and prescribed me with 2 weeks worth on the condition that I returned and let him know how I was getting on before he would repeat the prescription.

I persuaded him that I had support form the occupational health department at work and that a group of us had given up together, so we had our own support group. Eventually he gave in and prescribed me with 2 weeks worth on the condition that I returned and let him know how I was getting on before he would repeat the prescription.
Persevere if you are having trouble with your GP, the more you ask the more determined they will think you are.
I am using the 24-hour patches, however, unless you want to be kept awake with very bizarre dreams I would recommend taking it off before bed! I have tried the 16-hour patches previously but had a severe reaction to the adhesive so could not continue to use them.
Once the patch is on, you do not have to think about smoking or replacing the nicotine at all. You will still get the odd craving but it soon passes and is not nearly as severe as those you get on tabs or gum.
Something you may not know - if you get a really bad craving and have gone through your list of things to do, eaten half a shop of chocolate bars and still want to smoke, you can chew a piece of gum or have a microtab. This is only in real desperation, but is useful to know.
Do not get complacent and think, this is easy and go to milder patches or even stop them altogether, too soon. The reason it is easier is because you are wearing the patch, not because of your amazing will power. You should only lower the dose when you are no longer craving, at all.
The best thing about getting them on prescription is you will notice the money savings right away, treat yourself to a meal out or a new CD, anything, as soon as you can. Don't wait for months. Give yourself the encouragement you deserve, and the rewards.

...I tentatively placed my first Nicotinell patch on my arm, and I haven't had a cigarette since. I feel ghastly.
Whether this is because of the patches, or because I'm giving up a long-standing addiction, I don't know. I guess a bit of both.
This review is for all those thinking of giving up and doing it the patch way, just to let you know how it is in those initial, very hard stages. When I've given up totally, I will come back and update.
There ... ...painless, but despite my side effects/withdrawals, my cravings for a smoke are minimal, and that's what counts in the end.
So far I would recommend Nicotinell patches as 2 days without a fag is for me a great achievement and I know I wouldn't have done it without them. ...

...asked for a packed of Nicotinell Patches. I'm sure they have changed considerable since then, but this type was a months supply, in three grades. The first was full strength, a total of 14 and lasting for two weeks. The second set, the nicotine was reduce by a third, and lasting for seven days. The third and final set of patches for the remaining week, the nicotine was again reduced by a third. And by then in theory, it should have been home free. ... ...warm bath and placed my first patch onto my arm, and off I went to bed. By 4am I was still awake, for some reason they were having a diverse affect on me getting to sleep. The next night was the same, and the next, and the next. On the fifth night I finally fell asleep, though through sheer exhaustion more so than having got used to the patches. This whole process repeated itself on and off for a week or two, until I found myself lighting up one ...

IN MAY 1998 I DECIDED TO STOP SMOKING. I HAD TRIED MANY TIMES B4.MY DAY STARTED WITH A CIGARETTE 5 MINUTES AFTER GETTING UP AND CONTINUED TILL I WENT TO BED,GETTIMG THROUGH ABOUT 20 A DAY. I HAD STARTED RUNNING TO KEEP FIT,BUT COULD NOT GET ANY FASTER. I STARTED ON THE MEDIUM SIZE PATCHES AND CONTINUED ON THESE FOR THE STATED TIME, I WAS ENCOURAGED BY ALL MY WORK FRIENDS.IT WAS A RITUAL EVERY MORNING APPLYING MY PATCH.YOU GET A LITTLE CHART THAT ... ...PASSING WEEK ,YOU FEEL A GREAT ACHIEVMENT. I THEN WENT TO THE LOW STRENGTH ONES,AGAIN FOR THE STATED TIME. NOT DARING TO STOP TOO EARLY,INCASE I RELAPSED. I HAD THE WILL POWER AND THESE HELPED ME STOP SMOKING,OVER 2 YEARS LATER.
I HAVE ADDED THIS IN DECEMBER 2002 AND STILL STOPPED SMOKING. I FEEL THE BEST EVER AND PROUD OF MYSEF.

Advantages: Small. Discreet Disadvantages: Can leave a rash, expensive
Well I still havent stopped smoking and to be honest these patches didn't help much at all. I smoke extremely heavily and would like to stop, however I havent found any replacement therapies which have helped. These patches come in three different strenghts. 21mg, 14mg and 7mg. These patches are the strongest brand on the market at the moment which can make them seem more appealing to heavy smokers, however I wouldnt advice them for light smokers. ... ...the dose you start with. I would then advice you to cut down on the patches every two months. Also ensure that you dont smoke while wearing one of these patches as you can be liable to nicotine poisoning which can make you extremely ill. If you do overdose on nicotine I would advice you to take the patch off immediately and consult your local GP or pharmacy.
