Nikon D90 - My Next 'Last' Camera

Advantages: Movies, LiveView, 12.3 mpixels, build quality, excellent lens range
Disadvantages: Still quite bulky for casual use. Expensive if that's all you want it for

in ink now that A4 photos are pin-sharp! I?ve also noticed that photos are now more ?A4? shaped compared to previous experience where they were strictly 4:3 format which suits me fine. Likewise, movies can be shot in 16:9 mode to suit an ever-larger number of televisions. The lens in this ?kit?, the VR 18 -105 zoom comes from the upper of Nikon?s two ranges of digital camera auto-focus lenses, is superb in everyday use. It?s all too easy to read professional reviews that talk of a lack of sharpness at full aperture and full zoom and be put off by them. Then you read that they?re talking about blowing up the outer edge of the picture about 10 times, just so that some nit-picker can say, ?See I told you it wasn?t pin-sharp!? MOANS? Well, not surprisingly for something I?m going to award 5 stars to, they?re few and far between. This ...

Review of Nikon D90

My experience of the Nikon D90 as an amateur photographer.

Advantages: Excellent picture quality, lots of useful features, well designed controls, great kit lens
Disadvantages: More expensive than some other DSLRs, quite big and heavy, limited movie mode

charge and lasted for weeks! Even when I use the screen and flash a lot, it only used half the battery after taking around 800 pictures on 2 week holiday. Lenses I would definitely recommend the 18-105 kit lens you can get with the D90. It has the VR vibration reduction feature, a speedy auto-focus motor and good image quality and a long enough zoom for all your everyday shots (much better than the 18 -55 lens that comes with other D models like the D5000). I also have a 70 - 300mm zooms lens for basic wildlife shots, which I bought on ebay for around £80. The D90 has the advantage on an inbuilt auto-focus motor, not found in the smaller bodied D40, D60 and D5000. This means that all Nikon lens can be used, rather than just the newer AF lenses. Disadvantages The only disadvantage I can think of aside from the price tag, is ...

Review of Nikon D90

Nikon

Advantages: slimline, attractive, simple to use
Disadvantages: poor zoom, no battery life indicator

The Nikon Coolpix S210 is a lightweight, slim, compact digital camera available for under a hundred pounds. Its simple design means that it easily fits into a pocket or handbag, or the included wrist strap can be used to carry it around. The screen is a genorous 2.5 inches which makes viewing easy. The Nikon S210 comes with a lithium battery plus charger which saves those agonising moments of realising you need to nip out and buy more batteries. Unfortunately, this camera does not have a battery life indicator which could be very painful if you don't carry an extra battery. The optical zoom on this camera is a poor 3x optical zoom or 4x digital zoom, which is much less than most cameras on the market at the same price. The camera is incredibly easy to use, with few buttons and simple instructions. The on/off button is ...
