Advantages: Movies, LiveView, 12.3 mpixels, build quality, excellent lens range Disadvantages: Still quite bulky for casual use. Expensive if that's all you want it for
There?s been a legion of digital cameras that have passed through my hands since they started to become a serious contender for 35mm?s domination of the amateur market. Going from memory, they?ve included Philips, Casio, Canon, Nikon and errr?..Nikon. Of course the last one, my first DSLR, a Nikon D70 was going to be the last; but then we all say that don?t we, lads?
What I really meant was ?the last for quite a while?.
LOOKS LIKE THE ?QUITE A WHILE? HAS EXPIRED
Then my daughter started making noises about a night-school class in photography, where the minimum kit requirement just so happened to be a DSLR, and I got to thinking about letting her have the D70 for a ?song?, whilst good ol? Dad treats himself to the later and much higher-specified D90.
Since I bought the D70 four or five years back, things have moved on apace ...

Advantages: Excellent picture quality, lots of useful features, well designed controls, great kit lens Disadvantages: More expensive than some other DSLRs, quite big and heavy, limited movie mode
charge and lasted for weeks! Even when I use the screen and flash a lot, it only used half the battery after taking around 800 pictures on 2 week holiday.
Lenses
I would definitely recommend the 18-105 kit lens you can get with the D90. It has the VR vibration reduction feature, a speedy auto-focus motor and good image quality and a long enough zoom for all your everyday shots (much better than the 18 -55 lens that comes with other D models like the D5000). I also have a 70 - 300mm zooms lens for basic wildlife shots, which I bought on ebay for around £80. The D90 has the advantage on an inbuilt auto-focus motor, not found in the smaller bodied D40, D60 and D5000. This means that all Nikon lens can be used, rather than just the newer AF lenses.
Disadvantages
The only disadvantage I can think of aside from the price tag, is ...

Advantages: FIRST MOVIE MODE IN dSLR, user friendly, exellent image quality, good resolution Disadvantages: Not that really stand out loud
View which is an enhancement enabled by retouching done to its Expeed image processor.
Additions like an integration or expansion of Active D-Lighting parameters, improved controls, up to nine slots of custom picture control parameters uploadable to Nikon?sCaptureNX2 RAW-processing software. They in fact program on their own shifting to lower shutter speed as it senses necessity. Nikon D90 includes access points for Nikon?s GP-1 hot shoe GPS device.
My main objection or a source of hindrance is the new 18-105 mm f3.5-5.6 kit lens. Its too wide and long for typical shoots (but great for covering ranges 27-157 mm in 35 mm equivalent) the Canon kit lenses seems to be a bit sharper than D90.
Nikon D90 has 11 point AF 3D tracking mode. It is exceedingly responsive, no complains on that, it is neck and neck when compared to continuous ...
