...On the plus side the Nikon lens is excellent and eight megapixels gives a resolution at least as good as film - I'd say better. The optical zoom is smooth and easy to operate giving excellent results. Sadly, the picture quality drops away once you start using the upper end of the digital zoom but images taken using "a touch" of digital zoom remain top quality.
The software package is good and easy to use although you would probably want to invest ... ...take short movie clips and add voice memos that we will probably not have a real use for.
This is a "real" Nikon with the lens and build quality you would expect from them. Overall it's a good compromise between a more basic compact and a full digital SLR. ...

I bought a Nikon Coolpix 8700 and though it has its own pros and cons I am quite happy with it. Beginners can start with the auto mode and as they gain experience can shift on to more manual control. Things I like about the camera are good resolution, great magnification (even the digital zoom is impressive clarity wise) and basic ease of use. Of course you will have to read up a bit if you plan more adventurous photographing. The photographer has ... ...is simple to set up and use.
I even managed to take some pictures of the Northern Lights though they were really dim at that time.
On the negative side are its size (I use a tripod, but it may be a bit big if you are not using it) and battery drainage. Also there is a limit on the movie length irrespective of your memory size.
On the whole it is a good buy, at least I am personally very satisfied with my model. ...

This is a great well made piece of equipment. Although it is a little heavier than a lot you can buy, it's totally perfect for all uses. It shows up great orbs and shadows when i do my paranormal investigation work, i am so pleased with it's quality. It is very helpful on all my investigations and it is very cheep to battery run. The battery lasts for ages in it.
It is strongly made also, i have dropped it a few times and theres not even one scrtch ...

I bought my camera 18months ago, it cost me £750. It was my first SLR, and I have had some amazing results from it, on auto and manual.
