The camera is sold without lens and the first decission that must be made is: what autofoucus lens to marry to your new camera. As most with most digital cameras the CCD in the heart of the camera causes a magnifing effect to the lens.
A 24- 40mm zoom becomes effecitively a 36 - 60mm. If you are looking for a wide - wide angle you are going to end looking at some lens in the 10 to 20mm range. Nikon has a good selection of lens available as do other lens manufactures, Just remember the better quality of lens, the better quality of print you will make.
Once you take some time to learn the basic operation of the camera its time to hit the road and experiment with your camera. This camera is very-very flexable due to its SLR design.
This should be the camera you take into the field and work with. Travel, close-up work, portraits and every day photography is the bread and butter of the Nikon D100.

I own a D100 after years of film cameras, mostly Nikon. These varied from high end and some in the middle of their line up. I have no regrets switching to digital as I know that I have the best Nikon I've ever owned and thedigital format is the greatest.

I disagree with everyone else, I think this opinion is a bit pointless. There's no technical details, price even??, no honest opinion about it's quality of photos, ease of use or anything.
