The body is small, perhaps too small for those with shovel sized hands but it is well made and feels very solid. With a camera this size there is no excuse to leave it at home.
The kit lens produces excellent results and is a good starting ... ...and SDHC cards are a cheap and plentiful recording medium. As a first step into DSLR photography this is your camera whilst for those more experienced photographers looking for something more discreet and portable this is it.
There are no fancy whistle and bells it is just a good straightforward camera....what more do you need? ... more

The body is small, perhaps too small for those with shovel sized hands but it is well made and feels very solid. With a camera this size there is no excuse to leave it at home.
The kit lens produces excellent results and is a good starting point at least.
Battery life is good and SDHC cards are a cheap and plentiful recording medium. As a first step into DSLR photography this is your camera whilst for those more experienced photographers looking for something more discreet and portable this is it.

noticeable and is not a big enough reason to shy away from the Canon entry range, discussed later. Images will be sharp with slightly more chromatic abrasion near the edges than normal but this can only be expected from a camera as cheap as this. Extra lenses are available from Sony as well as many other stockists usual to photography. These range from superb fisheye kits, all the way through the super-wide angles up to extra telephotos. The range is not as complete as longer established Nikon or Canon ranges but definitely fairs up well, also given that old Minolta lenses as well as most modern Tamron and sigma lenses come with the alpha mount.
Competition
Its competition includes NikonD3000 and the Canon 1000D, although these cameras cost a lot more (£399.99.) They offer similar features and are essentially the same beginner ...
He is a home-built for 3 years now I had analog Minolta.From a half year I have NikonD40 and I think that it is an excellent camera for beginners.Very fast zoom and the ability to set all parameters JEO is a large advantage. I use the SLR of kitem 18-55 Nikkon lens and 50 f 1.8 and noticed that, as in August it will invest in the camera like a D40 is no different from D50. For me, this camera is fun and does not change it for a long time at most to invest in. Great quality photos. Not very high price camera. Low noise even at ISO 800 Good battery life (I going to do about 500 photos). Light as camera without lens weighs half kilo.NikonD40 has a matrix with six million active pixels, which allows us to execute even in a picture resolution of 3000 pixels to 2000 - the result of a really excellent, and the resolution of the image simply ...
