Geeky, photography-obsessed student with lots of consumer views to share (especially on cameras, since I've tried pretty much every camera once.. ). Thanks for reading!

In this review: SUMMARY - SPECIFICATION - LOOK - INSTRUCTION - RESULTS - OVERALL a GREAT camera.
=SUMMARY=
Nikon's lowest-priced SLR - the best SLR in this price range on the market. You really can't go wrong!
=SPECIFICATION=
This is a 6 megapixel camera with 23,000 pixel LCD monitor and ISO sensitivity range of 200-1600. Custom Auto ISO also applies, and the Nikon Processing engine is the same as the D80 or the D200, with 420 pixel sensor on the 3D Color Matrix Metering. If this all sounds a bit beyond you, the camera ALSO offers lots of helpful and accessible functions like "in-camera retouching". This is just to help you improve your photos BEFORE you take them - the LCD monitor will tell you if your scene is too dark and you need to use the flash (I am so guilty of this). You can also do red-eyed reduction, trimming etc and select photography modes such as "Normal", "Softer", "Vivid", "More Vivid" etc.
USB 2.0 compatible, uses the EN-EL9 battery (which is pretty standard and used across a variety of Nikon models - probably your current Nikon uses the same). I've read some pretty positive comments about the battery life - I would say average. HOWEVER, there is NO MEMORY CARD INCLUDED. I cannot stress this enough - it's the one big irritation in the specification. The camera is still definitely worth getting, but you do need to budget for a card (and probably if you buy this card you'll need a reasonably big one). The usual things like neck strap are also included and are easy to thread.
=LOOK= This is a VERY nice looking camera, and also markedly smaller and lighter than the D50. Only comes in black. My friend ordered one that got damaged in transit but I didn't have that problem - Nikon packs well and everything was both secured and easy to find and use. The body is reliable and durable (I know because I'm clumsy) and the battery compartment stays shut even if dropped...
=INSTRUCTIONS= Easy to use and comprehensive - there's also a lot of good Nikon advice online.
=RESULTS= Fabulous. A really good first SLR camera, and with a little practice, your images will be indistinguishable (in quality if not composition!) from much more experienced photographers.
=OVERALL= I would definitely, definitely reccommend this camera - for the price, it's much better than the D-50. Also, a beginner SLR photographer really really doesn't need anything more complicated.. but the look and specs mean you still get that kick and excitement from a "proper" camera.

Perhaps you could add a bit more info:
- the price
- what is the zoom
- a little about functions - i.e. does it have a portrait function, landscape, black and white, fireworks, etc.
If you update, drop me a note on my guest book and I will amend my rating :o)
