Having reached the limits of what a camera phone has to offer me, I have been searching for an affordable, compact and feature-packed DSLR to progress my photography, comparing Nikon, Cannon and Sony. I also spoke to some amateur photographers.
On paper, the D40 is the best beginner DSLR. It is light, compact, easy to use but with lots of features to keep you busy.
And I am happy to say it doesn't disappoint, giving me great pictures every time. The auto mode is useful for point-and-shoot, and there are also various other preset or manual modes once you get used to the camera.
I got the kit, which comes with an 18-55 lens, for £300. There is also an additional £30 cashback offer from Nikon after you purchase.
I also got a 2gb SD card from Amazon for £8, which allows me to store nearly 500 pictures at best quality (6mp).
I would definately recommend this camera to anyone looking to develop their photography skills.
