I have owned the D40 for about six months. I bought my first Digital camera about 10 years ago.,It was primitive and slow; I was not impressed. Since then I have used several other digi cameras belonging to friends as they improved and developed, A friend of mine told me of the Nikon D40 so I checked it out at the local camera shop. I was impressed and bought one. Since then I have taken a great number of pictures with it, with the original lense and two others I have added. I consider it to be a fine instrument, suitable for any photographic situation ,speed, portrate, whatever, and consider it to be well worth the purchase price All in all a camera for the photographer. The camera is lightweight to use , smart in appearance and has a usefull strap which is quickly detachable. The lense supp[ied in the kit is adequate for most amature photography,it has the Nikon self focusing motor fitted If purchasing on line remember to buy a card as this item is not supplied Most Nikon lenses will fit the camera but not all have the self focusing motor
