Firstly and most importantly ‘Cash Back £60’ when you buy and register this camera before 15th Sep 2007 by following this link http://media.play.com/trailers/elec/niko/Cashback%20Flyer%20Reverse.pdf Which makes this Camera even more attractive than it already is. This is my first digital SLR and after looking in the market for a while I decided to with this one. And I’ve never looked back. It is easy to get working – Get it out of the box – Charge the Battery – Select Auto focus and snap away.
The quality of the photograph’s are stunning and you can run the camera on automatic setting and it is so easy. My boyfriend is really the photographer and he plays with all the setting but he got use to it all very quickly. The buttons are very easy to use, even with bigger fingers.
I have a Canon Compact Camera of which I have loved since I bought it 5 years ago, but the picture quality does not compare. It is so nice to have the SLR and really zoom in to items that I want to take. It has taken some fantastic shots of my dog, which really would not sit still! Weight and Size wise of course the Compact Camera wins hands down but that not why you buy a SLR. However this D40X is easy to carry around and not to bulky. The LCD screen is of a good size and you can very clearly see your photo and zoom in. There is also an editing feature where you can edit your photos while they are still on your camera, which includes cropping.
The lens that the Camera comes with is superb and I’ve also tried my boyfriends Old Lens for his Film Nikon SLR and they fit also (but don’t automatic focus). What a great way of using old camera lens’s that you may have.
The battery life is excellent, it only takes about 90 minutes to fully charge the battery. I haven’t tested and noted how many photo’s it will take on the battery but have in the past taken 200 ++ photos some with flash and viewed the photo’s on the screen with the battery life still looking ok. Which is excellent in my books.
In Summary – I highly recommend this camera and it is good value. Buy It!! However look around for a good price because they do vary. (Don’t forget Cash Back before 15th Sep 07)

Advantages: Light, easy to handle, awesome quality, fast, perfect for new SLR buyers Disadvantages: No AF-engine built in, to simple if you are used to SLRs
