1 - Fantastic value for money 2 - Great start to amateur photography 3 - Very very easy to use 4 - Comes with a good quality glass lense
Cons : 1 - Expensive to change to alternative lense, unless going for other brands e.g. lenses with plastic covers. 2 - A little heavy 3 - Not as compact as other digital handheld cameras 4 - Sometimes awkward reviewing mode 5 - I personnally find the interface a little awkward to use.
Overall this camera is a beautiful model and great for beginner photographers hoping to get a grip for a digital SLR, an obvious upgrade from it's predecessor but I still feel it could do with a little more work with it's interface, as some of the functions are still not quite as clean cut to use. Great camera in general for it's price band, unless you're a professional photographer, this camera provides everything you need for high quality photographs.
How helpful would this review be to a person making a buying decision? Rating guidelines
You have the beginnings of a good review, but reviews need much more detail to get higher ratings - have a read of reviews rated 'Very Helpful' and you'll see what's needed! I have a D40 myself and LOVE it - I think they're very much getting on towards being a basic professional camera - you can override the automatic settings and use it manually, and did you know that you can achieve macro ability easily by buying a reversing adaptor ring and using a lens back to front? I was able to recycle the lens from my old Minolta SRT film camera, which I'm never going to use now, for that purpose - the reversing ring macro thing works much better with a manual lens than with the automatic focusing lens that comes with the Nikon D.
