I owned a manual focus SLR with simple aperture priority or manual exposure and thought it was all I would ever need. Why do you need auto focus when you're looking through the lens anyway.
I moved to the F60 only because I wanted a camera I could put in a housing and use underwater. Since I've used it I really appreciate the ease of use of auto focus, although if you main subject is off centre you have to recognise this and take control. Above the water the auto exposure modes are very easy to use and a thumb wheel allows you to very easily adjust the shutter speed/aperture combination. Underwater I use autofocus all the time and TTL with an external flash which works very well. Although now I come to the one failing I have found with the camera. All the auto exposure mode use matrix metering and you have no choice in this. If you're shooting a main subject close up with the background some distance away the camera fires the flash at full power to try to light the background. In doing this the flash burns out the main subject. Underwater I always use manual exposure. In manual mode the TTL uses Centre weighted metering rather than matrix and this solves my problem. What I really want on this camera is the option to use centre weighted metering on aperture priority.
