Advantages: ease of use Disadvantages: take time to do it
...The construction of the film holders is of a very
high standard and each kept the film flat. I was a little concerned about the 35mm strip holder, my negatives still tend to curl, but on closer inspection you can see there are a couple of clips to hold the film. On each of the film holders there is a raised clip, this avoids finger marks on the glass plate. The scanning area on the TPUGood attention to detail throughout. Clips hold your 35mm stripsUse the left side if scanning one strip One serious omission from the film holders is a strip holder for 120 roll film, I can imagine it would be a useful feature for wedding photographers to scan in an entire strip at a time. Advantages: high quality scans, large files, robust and intelligently designed. Disadvantages: None.
...The Nikon Super Coolscan 9000 ED is a brilliantly designed multi- format film scanner aimed at professionals but I would seriously recommend it for anyone passionate about photography. It is a joy to use.
It scans 35mm, Medium format 120/220, 6x6, 6x7, 6x9 (cm) and 16mm size films. Excellent results with black and white, colour negative and slide film in all the available above formats.
The price for the Nikon Super Coolscan 9000 ED is around £1800 to £2200. Compared to the Imacon range of Flextight scanners which can be anything around £5000 to £12000 the Nikon Coolscan 9000 ED price is instantly more attractive but what about quality?
The Nikon Coolscan produces images that are certainly good enough for professional, commercial and archival uses and fine art exhibiting purposes.
If you use Photoshop and have a good...

Advantages: good quality scanning Disadvantages: software is rubbish, can take for ever to scan an image
...I bought myself this to scan various things (old photos, documents and some sheet music) and this does the job pretty well. It was a bit on the expensive side but I needed something that would give me good quality and I could trust that it would work well so I went for HP as they are well known for good quality products.
TECHNICAL INFORMATION
It can scan at up to 4,800 dpi (dots per inch)
It has 96 bit colour
It has a 216x311mm scanning screen
Connects by USB
It is 303x508x108mm (wxdxh)
It weighs 5.2 kg
So it can give you very good quality, it gets a lot of colours, it's got a decent sized scanning screen, it's pretty big and it's not a light weight utility. There is nothing in there to put me off though because I still bought it.
A LITTLE BIT ABOUT IT
Scanners have been dying out because they are getting beaten by...
