tripod use. Nikon VR is equivalent of using a shutter speed 3 f-stops faster, allowing sharper images to be more easily produced in low light and at slower shutter speeds. For even higher performance, the lens can automatically detect when the photographer is panning with a subject. Other features include two VR modes (one for viewfinder and image plane and one for image plane only, which conserves battery power and reduces possibility of eyestrain), a built-in A/M switch for changes from auto to manual focus and a focus range limiter.

NikonD80
My first real DSLR camera, which I have become addict to even if it requires me to learn a lot and keep challenging myself into operating it better and better ammoed with knowledge.
It had been my dream to own a SLR camera, I've always had a passion for the big cameras and I was jealous of the pro photographers and the pictures they got.
When I was little, my parents had an old Czech-made camera including all the stuff you need to develop the pictures yourself at home and so we were always full of photographs of me and my brother, that's where I started to love the stuff. Unfortunately the old equipment doesn't work anymore and my first camera was a simple automatic one and even if I liked to take pictures, I soon found out how expensive it was to have them developed and to buy new and new films. Now, in the age ...

I have been using Nikons for many years and the D80 camera is quite light and compact compared to some earlier Nikon film cameras although not as small as the less expensive D40, D50 and D60 models. It fits nicely in the hand despite being small (I actually prefer cameras to be bigger than this, but I am probably quite old fashioned and in a minority) and all of the important functions are easily accessible even while looking through the view-finder. In fact the main functions are in exactly the same place they have always been on F series film cameras for the last few decades. The D80 is very well made when you consider the price and the lens-mount feels solid and robust when changing lenses. It also seems to be nicely sealed from the elements with rubber seals covering the important connectors etc.
My only complaint is that is ...

positions it becomes second nature.
The main program mode wheel has programs which you would find on both point and shoot and professional DSLR cameras which reinforce Nikons message that this is the camera to go for if you need to bridge the gap between consumer and professional.
Below are the list of modes which are available on the D80;
- Auto (all the cameras functions are automated based on sensor readings)
- Portrait (special mode for portrait shots, usually enhancing skin tone colours)
- Landscapes (special mode for Landscapes)
- Macro (for close up photography)
- Sport (for capturing fast moving subjects)
- Night Landscapes (as landscape mode but in the dark!)
- Night Portrait (as portrait but in the dark!)
- Manual (You dictate the full setup of the camera)
- Aperture Priority (You dictate the f-stop the camera decides ...

Fantastic build quality, superb handling, access to Nikon's legendary range of lenses, capable of virtually any assignment, total "systems"camera
Slow 1/80 sec flash sync, idiosyncratic position of hot-shoe,dull (by modern standards anyway) viewfinder, metering pattern takes getting used to, this is NOT a point-and-shoot camera. (*)
