Nikon D80 DSLR + 18-135mm Nikkor lens

Advantages: perfect grip, large prismatic viewfinder
Disadvantages: doesn't have internal memory

the package, but Nikon offers first 10 chip cleaning services for free, which is quite a generous offer if you think about the service prices. Software supplied by Nikon is Nikon PictureProject, which allows you to copy, transfer, organize and keep your pictures as well as edit them, correct exposure and more. There's also a trial version of Capture NX, a professional edit and retouch software. I have got the D80 in a kit with AF-S Nikkor 18-135mm 3.5-5.6G ED DX lens which was a way better deal than buying it with standard kit 18-55mm lens, however, for macro and landscape shoots I'll need to expand my lens arsenal. This lens doesn't have a stabilizer (Nikon marks stabilizer as "VR"), it's a zoom lens enabling both manual and automatic focus, it doesn't have its own aperture. It's a CPU-controlled lens, which makes the autofocus quick ...

Review of Nikon D80

Good alternative to a kit zoom lens

Advantages: Good for shooting in low light, compact, discreet, low weight
Disadvantages: None really

kit lenses are "slow" in terms of the light they transmit, typically f/3.5-f/5.6, meaning a slow shutter speed will be required to shoot in low light. This 35mm f/2 "prime" lens lets in a lot more light, about 4X as much in fact, so that you can use faster shutter speeds when shooting indoors without flash for example. Someone with the kit lens shooting indoors without flash might have to shoot at 1/15s wheras someone shooting with this prime lens could still shoot at 1/60s and avoid motion blur. This lens is very compact compared to a zoom lens so is more discreet, which would appeal to street photography enthusiasts. I use this lens with the HN-3 metal lens hood (about £15) which means I'm less likely to damage the glass at the front of the lens if the camera takes a knock, and the hood helps prevent flare from bright sunlight ...

Review of Nikon Nikkor wide-angle lens - 35 mm F/2.0

The nikon 70-200mm F2.8 VR, top-of-the-line

Advantages: Beautiful bokeh, tack-sharp, vibration reduction, easy to use, many useful accessories
Disadvantages: heavy, expensive, slight vignetting, prone to flaring

their version, the so-called "vibration reduction", was the 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6 ED. An interesting lens to be sure, but Nikon owners really started to get excited at the announcement of the AF-S 70-200 F2.8 VR. This lens, a successor of a highly regarded line of professional lenses, turned out to be spectacular: the image stabila? sorry, the vibration reduction was possibly even more effective than Canon's and the image quality? Well, I am going to discuss that right now! ---Image quality--- The 70-200 VR is a tack-sharp lens, as you would expect of a lens in this price class. It is not even in the same ballpark as normal consumer lenses: the colours are vibrant, the details sharp, and the bokeh (the appearance of parts of the picture that our out of focus) is stunning. The lens is particularly famous for the silky smooth rendering of out ...
