...I bought one of these 2 years ago after carefully reviewing via 'Which' - it has a 'best buy' rating. It has been the single worst purchase I have ever made. The cleaning performance is adequate but the real beauty (?) of this cleaner is the extreme work out you get when using it. It is very very awkward to manoeuvre and incredibly heavy in use fit only for body builders. The tools are flimsy and the bags are almost impossible to source. I have a cord rewinder that doesn't work after 1 year plus a tool section lid that will not close and is held together with tape after 18 months. Despite many emails to Nilfisk, I am still awaiting even acknowledgement let alone reply/action - in real terms the 5 year parts guarantee is meaningless. I am a consumer - nothing more - buy one of these at your peril, a complete waste of money....

Advantages: Built-to-last, powerful, Dry and Wet suction Disadvantages: Heavy, No Cord-rewind, messy dust filter, overkill for dry-only use
...Nilfisk which is high praise indeed. Dust bags are large and have a rubber membrane that stops leaks around the dust-pipe, this is a super idea and it works! But this good performance is not enough to justify the price, weight etc of George. It's party-piece is it's ability to get wet.
Wet work:
To work in the wet you need to do a pretty complex conversion job on George. Take the top off, remove the particle filter (pulls off), remove the bag (pulls off with some effort), place the "spray liquid" container in the "bag" area (slides in), put on the snorkle type protection system (place on top), change the plastic pipe (twist & pull) for the "wet" version, connect the spray hose (snaps in with top-grade valve), slide on the spray attachment, replace the "brush head" with the "suction head" (fiddly thumb-screw attachment). Then you're ready...

Advantages: Light, reasonable performance, cheap Disadvantages: Fragile stowage clip on Floor Head, a bit noisy.
...safely washed, but I have not found this necessary, just a light brush over should clear any captured dust particles.
Finally, there is a hatch on the bottom of the main body that allows you to clean the internal suction tube. It doesn't really get dirty and would imagine its there so you can clear any blockage caused when you accidentally vacuum up Juniors Lego bricks.
*** Conclusion ***
I would rate the overall cleaning performance of the ProAction VC-354-6 as "good, but not startling". It picks up modest everyday amounts of debris and pet hair well (certainly no worse than the Samsung I was using before), and the Turbo Brush is great for smaller jobs. We mustn't loose sight of the fact this is a reasonably priced good value unit with a modest 1600-watt motor. A Nilfisk Extreme it ain't…...
