I've been looking for a new perfume for ages now, and decided to stop being so fussy! My sister was going shopping anyway, so I gave her Ł30 and told her to come back with a new perfume for me.
She came back with L'Air Du Temps by Nina Ricci. It's French, but I don't know what it means. Temps means.. day? Temps en temps is from time to time, temps means time, but it doesn't make sense, so day? Oh I'm not even going to bother trying to translate it - it's the Easter holidays and my brain's turned to mush!
The picture illustrating this perfume isn't the same as mine. Mine is in an glass bottle, shaped like the bottom half of an hour-glass. It has an embossed picture of two doves on the front of it, and a frosted curved lid. It looks very classy and expensive, and will definitely look impressive on your bathroom shelf (I always seem to mention bathroom shelves in my beauty ops!)!
It has been around for quite a while now - my mum used to use it, apparently, years ago when she still bothered with perfume! - and isn't like all the trendy fashionable ones around. The scent won't smell dated and old-fashioned in six months time, and as people are shunning it for trendier perfumes, like Gucci and Dior, you probably won't find a lot of people wearing it.
I've never smelt anything like it before, and it's quite hard to describe. It's light and fruity, with undertones of spiciness. After about an hour, the floral scent fades slightly, and allows a bit more of the spiciness through (the bottom note?).
It does sound quite odd - a mixture of floral and spice, but it does work amazingly well, and you end up with a unique, feminine-with-a-twist fragrance. It's a lovely daytime scent, but also works as a first-date perfume as it's pleasant and subtle.
It lasts me for about two hours where I could smell it quite strongly, and after that I got an waft of it now and then, which was quite pleasant. It's gentle and romantic, which lingers for all day. This is a daytime perfume - it's too soft and gentle for when you want to make a statement.
I normally go for fruity, sharper scents, and this is the complete opposite for what I would choose for myself, but very pleasant. I wear this when I'm feeling feminine and quiet, or wanting to make a good first impression, but I'll reach for something stronger and sharper if I need to make more of an impact.
This is a great perfume and it does seem to suit my mood 90% of the time. But who can be quiet and lady-like all the time? For those occasions when I'm feeling a bit louder and a bit more confident, I keep a bottle of Burberry Baby Touch at hand.
Buy this, even if it's just for those long, hazy summer days where you lounge about, not doing much at all! You might need a bottle of something stronger (I sound like I'm accusing you of being an alcoholic now) for the evenings, but it's worth spending that bit more as this is really unusual and well, great.
I have to stress this won't suit everyone, and it's not a perfume for all occasions. If you're willing to spend more on a seperate perfume for evenings, then go for it! Everyone's got a girly side to them, and this perfume will bring it out!
Eau de toilette's can be a bit too weak for me, and I prefer stronger eau de parfums, which are more expensive, but this is quite strong anyway for an toilette (82% volume, compared to Baby Touch's 70%) so will last you all day.
It costs from Ł25-30 for 75ml, which I think is very reasonable, as most perfumes I've tried were about the same price for 50ml or less.
