I was first introduced to Nina Ricci's 'Premier Jour' when my brother brought home a load of testers from a local perfume shop. As many people have said who have tried this perfume you don't really know quite what to make of it when you first try it, it does take a few moments to get used to. After the initial couple of minutes where perfume always smells too strong I began to really like the scent and did more and more as the day went on.
... ...Having gone on to the Nina Ricci website I have found the answer and its really obvious now! The bottle is in three, interconnected parts which I think signifies the levels of scent the perfume has. It claims to have three seperate tones which are:-
-Gardenia and Yellow Mandarin
-Sweet Pea and Vanilla Orchid
-St Lucia Wood, musk and Sandalwood.

The perfume is a floral scent which for some people might be an instant 'no no' as no-one wants to smell like their grandma used to but I can assure you this just isn't the same, it is a modern fragrance. I tried to work out what the smells were as it is clearly a fab mixture but couldn't quite seperate them. Having gone on to the Nina Ricci website I have found the answer and its really obvious now! The bottle is in three, interconnected parts which I think signifies the levels of scent the perfume has. It claims to have three seperate tones which are:-
-Gardenia and Yellow Mandarin -Sweet Pea and Vanilla Orchid -St Lucia Wood, musk and Sandalwood. (www.ninaricci.com)
Now I'm sure that array of flowery fragrances are enough to send many a person running but it honestly is a beautiful scent. The musk and sandalwood really set off the floral undertones making it a light smell which is suitable for any woman to wear either during the day or at night.
Obviously the price varies depending on where you buy the perfume but generally it is between about £20 up to £30 for the 30ml eau de perfume spray. I have found the cheapest prices on the web, particularly a site www.supaperfume.com where the 30ml edp is £17.49 including delivery. You can also purcahse Premier Jour body lotion 200ml for between £12 and £18 and, shower gel 200ml for between £10 and £14 and obviously eau de tolilette for between £15 and £25.
In my experience the perfume really lasts and there is no need to re-spray too often. One spray on your wrists and one on your neck is enough and it does generally last all day. (obviously this is an average day, if you are planning to run a marathon or swim the channel it might not last quite as long!) My bottle has lasted ages so it's also really great value for money. (Well as far as perfume can be value for money, its usually pretty overpriced for what it is!)
Im never quite sure why people are enticed by the shape of the bottle but I guess for some people it is important and luckily this fragrance has a really quirky, modern shape to it. As I have said it is three interconnected parts which seem to signify the levels and tones of the fragrance, I have included pictures to ensure you get a good idea of how it looks as I am truly terrible at explaining odd shaped perfume bottles! It has had two quite pretty ad campaigns which are very plain, no need for any crazy colours or gimmics to sell the perfume, just a woman and her scent! The campaigns boast it is "a floral, luminous and sensual harmony", which is a fluffy way of saying a really nice scent!
Obviously for those fluent in the art of French (and for those who took it for GCSE at school) it is obvious 'Premier Jour' means 'FIRST DAY'. What the heck that is supposed to signify I am not sure..... First thing in the morning??? Answers on a postcard please to "the silliest name for a perfume!" Im guessing Nina Ricci was bored that day and just plucked that one off the top head! Anyway.........
Since buying the full sized perfume and wearing it on a daily basis I have had many positive comments about the way I smell which is always a good sign that a perfume is really doing its job. I would recommend Nina Ricci Premier Jour to anyone looking for a fresh floral scent, just give it a moment to sink in before you judge it on first spray. (and don't get too caught up in the meaning of the name like I did!!!!)
Advantages: lasts all day Disadvantages: not very pleasant at first
TOP TONES - Yellow Mandarin and Gardenia
MIDDLE TONES - Sweet Pea, Vanilla, Orchid and Almond
BASE TONES - St Lucia Wood. Musk and Sandalwood
I tested this perfume a little while ago and wasnt sure on how this perfume smelt on me at first I thought it smelt a touch 'girly' and to flowery but once id left the shop and the perfume began to wear off a little the scent changed and began to grow on me more and more. I could smell the frangrance on ... ...must say my first impressions were totally wrong as I found myself constantly re-smelling my wrist and becoming addicted, so I purchased a bottle for myself as a treat not long after.
The frangrance is a gentle floral frangrance with a hint of citrus (mandarin), its fresh smelling yet very elegant. Its perfect for all occasions and has the ability to make you smell good without being overpowering. The fragrance lasts all day without having to reapply ...
