I read Nineteen Minutes because I was forced to Junior year as it was my summer reading. However I didn't realize how caught up I would get in this story. The way Jodi Picoult writes is a way I've... more

Advantages Advantages compelling, though provoking, strong character, great plot

    Disadvantages Disadvantages NOTHING

I'm quite a fan of Jodi Picoult's work and try and read as much of her stuff as I can, I'd been wanting to read this for a while but been a little skint lately so I didn't want to spend any money, as soon as my local library finally got it in I snatched it off the shelf with glee. The Blurb Sterling is a small, ordinary New Hampshire town where nothing ever happens - until a student enters the local high school with an arsenal of guns and starts shooting, changing the lives of everyone in and out. The daughter of the judge sitting on the case should be the state's best witness - but with her ... more

Advantages Advantages Gripping story, well researched, unputdownable, great characters

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Nothing at all

When Nineteen Minutes was released earlier this year, I bought it in a hardback edition as I was quite desperate to read another Jodi Picoult having finished my last book of hers quite a while beforehand. I actually forgot about this one until about 10 days ago when I saw it on my bookshelf, so when I wanted to read a new book I grabbed this one and looked forward to a very good read. And as usual with Jodi Picoult, I wasn't disappointed! The main story of the book goes like this. Sterling is a small town in New Hampshire, a sleepy town where not a lot happens. Until one fateful day in March ... more

Advantages Advantages Highly addictive well written story.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Couldn't put it down so didn't get anything done.

***Background*** Jodi Picoult has really become on of my favourite authors in the past year and this book only confirms that assumption. Nineteen Minutes hasn’t been out very long but it is certainly one of her best yet. She rose to recognition when her book, My Sister’s Keeper, was featured on Richard & Judy’s show and her popularity has gone from strength to strength. There are quite a few of her books that are only available in the US at the moment but according to this book they are to be released over here soon. She is also working on another new novel at the moment. ***The Story*** It’s ... more

Advantages Advantages Superb scope for ethical debate, excellent characters and story

Disadvantages Disadvantages None, except the odd simile!

Peter Houghton has been bullied all his life - from the first day of school, literally. Nothing he can do will make it stop... Until the day he takes four guns to school and kills ten people. Suddenly the sleepy New Hampshire town of Sterling is thrown upside down. Everyone mourns the victims - those who are dead or injured and their families and friends - but no one considers that there is one victim who has been overlooked. Peter. Jodi Picoult's books always centre on a multitude of ethical dilemmas and Nineteen Minutes is no exception, but I didn't expect myself to be so confused and ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Judgemental ?

Most people must be familiar with Jodi Picoult, a hugely successful American novelist who, with worldwide sales of more than 12 million, is also Britain's best selling female novelist. She is no prize winner or academic, but instead finds fame and fortune by writing to a very successful formula; she chooses society's most controversial moral dilemmas and turns them into popular novels, not all necessarily with a happy ending. The secret of her success is not only the subject choice, but the research that she puts into writing her books, and the authentic background along with extremely well ... more
