The first ninja gaiden released for the original Xbox was ahead of its time in action gameplay. Its been over four years but finally the sequel is here. You play as a hyabusa ninja battling against huge bosses with a large choice of weapons to-do so.
Fans of the series will be glad to here that the original melee combat system which made the first game a joy, hasn't been changed. But Ninja Gaiden 2 also includes a lot of the same issues the original did. Which are definitely not acceptable on a next generation system.
The story moves quickly with furious action and twists throughout. The rough plot of the game is that a rival ninja clan, is trying to resurrect an evil god, you must stop it. Along the way you will journey from New York city to the depths of hell. This change of scenery is a pleasant attribute the first gaiden didn't have. But saying that the story is cliché with hollow characters and plot twists you can easily see coming.
Concerning NG2s gameplay, each level is linear and only has small side paths. There are also a lot more chance to save game and replenish health. Even though their isn't any flexibility on how you finish a quest there is definitely plenty of it. The game consists of fourteen chapters. Once you've completed the game two more difficulty settings will unlock, I'm guessing most people will never finish it.
NG2 has the most addictive combat of any game in history. This game gives you unlimited methods of dismembering your foes, with swords and scythes to name a few. But be warned you will die over and over playing NG2, even on the easiest difficulty PATH OF THE ACOLYTE. Ninja Gaiden games have always been difficult, but when you come across some of the incredible boss fights, you may end up throwing your controller across the room, in frustration. Fortunately NG2 is saved by its combat, with so many ways to slice n' dice all in your way, you cant complain. One running theme in this game seems to-be limbs removal, there is blood and gore a plenty.
This game is more of a renovation of the original, but is still a joy to play.
