Generations of successful gaming console releases through the years led to the much-hyped 1996 launch of Nintendo 64, a system that represented a giant evolutionary leap in video game technology. Within the first three days of launch, hundreds of thousands of gamers hunkered down withMario 64, considered by many to be one of the greatest video games ever created. Even today, the system's excellent design continues to host an ever-expanding library of breakthrough games.Nintendo 64's popularity among younger gamers is no surprise. Well-respected games featuring such long-lived and much-loved personalities as Mario (of arcade classicDonkey Kongfame) and Zelda are easy to learn and offer enormous replay value.Under the system's hood, its appeal to the young certainly didn't produce a less mature gaming machine. On the contrary, the 64-bit system boasts impressive graphics, stereo sound and numerous accessory enhancements, including a high-resolution pack that boosts graphics to awe-inspiring resolutions.With the launch of Sega's Dreamcast system and Sony's PS2, Nintendo 64 is being left behind as the leader in video game technology. And with newer game systems featuring CD-based games, the system's expensive cartridge format is proving itself an archaic and unconventional storage format. Although not a great investment for the future, it does represent a good starting point in the world of video games. --Eric Twelker

...I had even taken my Nintendo 64 to West Africa once and found no problems connecting or playing it even though there were so many light fluctuations. On my trip, my son had borrowed his friend’s playstatyion in trade for our N64. It took us an hour to connect the playstation and then after playing a couple games smoke started coming out of the playstation. We later released that the playstation had blown up and we had to buy the guy a new playstation. ... ...that I had bought a Nintendo 64 and not any other console.

----------------
Almost all the games on this console can be saved in the memory of the it. There are only a few of the really humongous games that need memory packs which are also available at good prices. This is also a great plus as most consoles; like playstation; require a memory card on almost 99% of the games before they can be saved. This ... more
I bought an N64 a couple of years ago and so far so good. It is in perfect condition, even though I play games on it for long hours every day. For me this is the best system there is because of the following reasons:
USE OF CARTRIDGES ----------------- This is one aspect of this console that makes it tops. Unlike many other consoles which use cd’s( need cleaning and could easily get scratched) the N64 uses cartridges. There are so many advantages that come with using cartridges. For instance, there is a very small chance of them getting damaged and they cannot get scratched, there is no loading that occurs during any game which would disturb you, and finally, you can keep the cartridges almost anywhere without expecting any problems with the games. The cartridges also do not require cleaning, and although sometimes they do not work, a quick puff of air into the cartridge gets it working.
EASE OF CONNECTION ------------------ Unlike consoles like the playstation, this is so easy to connect. There are only three wires that go at the back of the Television and one in the power socket both starting from the Nintendo. There are no problems with voltages and you do not need an adaptor or anything of that sort. It can also be plugged in on any ordinary television without much difficulty at all.
RELIABILTY ---------- As I said earlier in my op, I have had this console for quite a few years almost four and so far not even one single problem. This is one incredible fact that astonishes me considering that I play it almost six hours a day. I had even taken my Nintendo 64 to West Africa once and found no problems connecting or playing it even though there were so many light fluctuations. On my trip, my son had borrowed his friend’s playstatyion in trade for our N64. It took us an hour to connect the playstation and then after playing a couple games smoke started coming out of the playstation. We later released that the playstation had blown up and we had to buy the guy a new playstation. After that experience I have not let my 64 slip out of my grasp and was really happy that I had bought a Nintendo 64 and not any other console.
AUTOMATIC SAVING ---------------- Almost all the games on this console can be saved in the memory of the it. There are only a few of the really humongous games that need memory packs which are also available at good prices. This is also a great plus as most consoles; like playstation; require a memory card on almost 99% of the games before they can be saved. This is very annoying as you might get really far in a game and then release that you have to switch it off and all your energy has been wasted as you cannot save.
GRAPHICS -------- Today, very few consoles beat the garphics of Nintendo 64. Almost all games on the console have really great graphics and the best games that have ben produced up to date are mostly Nintendo's games. Even the best producers for graphics like rae are for the 64 which just shows how good the graphics are on this machine.
CONCLUSION ---------- After all my wonderful experiences with this console, I am proud to say that there is no console on this planet that betters it. It has got all advantages that go with it and gets a 101% from me.
Advantages: Some amazing games and innovations Disadvantages: Some poor games and a sad death
...stand for ages playing the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) on games like Mario Brothers and Duck Hunt. Of course I was still young at the time, and that was the limit of my early console experience. However years later b the time I had paper rounds and jobs at local chippies, I managed to buy myself a Super Nintendo (SNES) and console gaming became a big thing for me.
I’ve since upgraded to a Playstation and Dreamcast (with my greedy eyes ... ...a Nintendo 64 (N64) a while back. Many people instantly dismiss the N64 as inferior, even to a supposedly lower spec Playstation. However this is certainly not the case, the N64 is a hugely underrated console and has produced some of videogamings finest moments. Whilst now, new games are rarer than a Brit winning Wimbledon, there are some amazing games out for it.

::::: My Story ::::: I decided to take a step back in gaming recently – I purchased an N64. I was once what some may call a “hardcore gamer”. OK, I'm not going to go into some pureile rant about who makes the best consoles, I'll leave that for the ten year olds in the playground. The fact is that I own a Dreamcast, Playstation, N64, and a 3DO (remember them?) and, in terms of entertainment per hour, the N64 comes out tops. Let me tell you why...
Like many men in their mid-twenties I would like nothing better than to waste away every available hour chasing yellow stars, beating lap records, ... ...that work, girlfriend, mates etc. have an annoying habit of getting in the way. So, what I need is quality gaming that gives me maximum pleasure with the least amount of pissing about. This is where the N64 shines for me. You may, legitimately, argue that the amount of games available for the 64 is restrictively low, but as an occasional gamer this does not pose a problem as I will never have enough time to complete 90% of the games that I buy. What ...

I am trying to review the actual N64 here, and so will not go into depth on any more games. The speed of the console is good. It occasionally latches on startup - but it is about 4 years old. Advantages: Fast, compatible, free Disadvantages: Illegal when using Non PD ROMS (unless you upload them to PC yourself, from your own cartridge)
Project 64 is a program for the PC that emulates another machine and enables you to play games that were designed for that machine.
So what machine does it emulate?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It emulates the Nintendo64, a console that was released a while back and has long since stopped being sold in most outlets. Only a few specialist stores will sell the machine itself, although they are abundant in second hand shops.
With so many brilliant games made for the N64, emulation of the system was inevitable, and was first made possible by an emulator known as UltraHLE.
PJ64, plays more games; games such as Goldeneye, Conkers Bad Fur Day, as well as titles such as Perfect Dark makes this the emulator of choice.
Advantages: High performance emulating Disadvantages: Some compatability issues, high system requirements
I've owned an N64 since it was first released, but after the Playstation 2 came out, the poor Nintendo sat unused on one of my shelves for years. Recently, however, I brought it down to my flat at university and have been playng on it for the "retro" games. Some of the games I own are now broken due to incidents with spilled coffee, being stepped on etc. So when I wanted desperately to play one of these games I turned to emulators so that I would be able to play the games I own on my PC. Project 64 was the one that was most highly recommended to me so I decided to give it a try.
Background
In order to play console games on your PC you'll need two things, an emulator and some ROMs. A ROM is basically the content of the console game but converted into computer files so that you'll be able to run ...
Advantages: Brill Graphics, Gameplay and Effects Disadvantages: Some levels frustrating to play
Well it was my birthday, so I really wanted to get something that I could play on my beloved DS. When I was younger my first ever computer based present was an Nintendo64. The graphics weren't bad and the sound was ok but it was nothing like we have now. My poor Nintendo64 broke around 5 years ago and I sold all my beloved games including Super Mario 64 which was one of my favourite games (apart from Goldeneye.) While browsing through the new Argos catalogue, I found the game now avalible in the DS format. It would be great to have it again.
What Is It?
Super Mario 64 (NDS Format) is a take off, of the original N64 game. The game has 4 playable characters of Mario, Lugie, Wario and Yoshi. This has bits added and taken away so if you have played the original N64 game then don't expect it to be exactly the same. Also added are ...
