The re-designed DS is a thing of beauty. Now it can compete with the PSP on looks and the games are so much better.

The DS certainly confirmed to me the future of video games is handheld.

My Son (Five) and I have had two happy years with our two Gameboy Advance SP's, but Nintendo's new DS Lite made me rush out and purchase two to replace the aging SP's.

I bought both the black version and the white Version to easy distinguish between my sons and mine.

If you are to buy just one go for the white one. The black unit shows up finger prints, grease and marks very easily, whereas the white just looks great all the time.

The original DS didn't attract my attention, The PSP looked far better but since the launch the software on offer for the DS has improved and now has a fine catalogue of games for young and old, casual or serious gamer.

The games I got when purchasing were Mariokart DS, Tetris DS, Big Brain Academy and New Super Mario Brothers. All I can say is WOW! All these titles are triple "A" quality. Not only do you get great single player games but some awesome multiplayer gaming.

Why trade in my trusty GBA SP? One word - Multiplayer.
Nearly every DS game has a multiplayer option, most of the time you can play multiplayer with just a single card as the DS has an option to download the multiplayer game, I you have multiple copies of the cart like Mariokart you are in for even more fun.

The great thing about the DS is the multiplayer games are done over its in built wireless connection meaning no need for cables. If you have a game like Mariokart DS or Tetris DS you can also play other players over the internet using the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, this is trickier; you need a wireless router, USB Wi-Fi Key or be at a wireless hotspot. Once setup the gaming is seamless and safe - even my 5 year old son can play!

I thought the touch screen was a gimmic until I tried it. Big Brain Academy uses the stylus as the main input into the game. Tetris has a version of the game that u solely use the touch screen. it also offers the option of easy internet browsing once the Internet addon arrives. Currently this is only available in Japan after Nintendo teamed up with Opera (A Internet Browser software company).

The backwards compatibility is a bonus, I already had 15 GBA cart's and they plug into the secondary card slot at the bottom of the console - you can choose to decide which screen will show the GBA game.

If your tempted by the PSP ask your self if you want a portable device that had great games, if that's the case you NEED the DS Lite.

I you love Nintendo games, Buy the DS! Mario Kart is the best version on any platform, it even beats the SNES version.

Congratulations to Nintendo on creating such a great video console, you are the king at creating handheld systems.
