Virtual Boy was a headset worn by the user with a control pad attached to it. The set itself was quite heavy and not the thing to carry around with you. The red colour also didn't suit Nintendo's style. The unit displayed infra red to the user's eyes. A good idea but ... ...mistake. They made the mistake of not trying out the console before developing many of them. The public didn't like it. I didn't like it. So Nintendo sold them off cheap with stacks of games to patch up the embarrassment.
What a shame the Virtual Boy could've been so good. ...

with the NES, nintendo were kings of the video game industry. Just as Atari were with the 2600, Sega with the Mega Drive, and Sony with the Play Station.
It seems that you can only be king once in this industry. Since the NES, Nintendo have been making serious mistakes. The Super Nes, lost out to the Mega Drive due to a lack of support. The N64 fared even worse due to initial support lacks, and high pricing. The failure to deliver the 64DD prevented ... ...was the Virtual Boy. It was a mix between a VR game, and a gameboy. It was 32Bit, and had a mono screen headset, like the gameboy.
Only about 10 games exist for it. It was never marketed, and lost money for Nintendo.
The main mistakes were it being mono, no 3rd party support, no marketing, and it being a stupid idea. ...
