Official Wii Component Video Cable
Advantages: Far better picture than standard composite, better looking games Disadvantages: Expensive, Only needed for larger screens 32" or greater

I have a 42" LG Plasma TV - I plugged in the component cable and the first thing I needed to do was set the video output in the Wii setup menu to 480P. This is something of a let down by the instructions as the box didnt contain any!.
The first thing I noticed was the Wii start menu was overly bright - not a great start to be honest, but what about the games?
After the release of the little white bundle of joy on the 8/12/2006 people were given a composite cable to show off their new shinny new console.
AV enthusiasts all know a composite signal is the poor quality option for showing video on their TV's - what people really want is RGB or Component video input.
As console manufactures are out to make a profit they usually bundle the cheapest and most compatible option with the console and then release upgrades to that product for people who need or want it. Nintendo understand this and have released two video upgrade options - the Wii RGB cable or the Wii Component cable.

Zelda was transformed by the cable, all of a sudden the game had extra clarity, the brown tinged game became very vibrant and and morenext gen than the original Gamecube looking visuals.
The other Wii games looked better, clearer and crisper but their improvement was not as startling as Zelda. This may be something positive though as future releases should push the hardware far more the the original releases.
Gamecube games looked clearer - I tested Star Wars Lego 2, Metriod Prime 2 and with Mario Kart.
Mario64 on the virtual console was far better looking an looked really good in 480p. The game looks far better than the original N64 release due to the cleaner cleared visuals and increased definition.
The burning question for Wii owners is do I need a component cable? Am I glad I got the Component Cable? Is it value for money?
Well I can say yes, The Wii looks great on the TV and I was astounded by the improvement in clarity and colours. Was it worth £22? Well as my TV cost more that thousand pounds £22 is probably justified.
What about us you cry? Well follow these principles:
Have I got Component Video inputs on my TV? Is my screen 32" or larger? Does it support 480 Progressive scan?
If you answer yes to all three get a cable I doubt you will be disappointed. No to one or more - stick with the composite or buy a new tv.
Advantages: Excellent picture, resonable price, Disadvantages: Only supports 480p,
...cable you get with the nintendo wii and belive me its not nice running it through your HDTV. The quality you get from this HD cable is excellent it brings out the vibrate colours that you just dont see in your standard cable, games for instance like zelda you really notice the difference and the background looks amazing.
The only downfall about this new hd cable is that it only supports 480p which is standard compared too the settings most tv's ... ...playing games where you need too concerntrate more need better picture quality so your acurracy can become better, or if you need too find somthing it might become clearer.
This one deffently gets a thumbs up for me although I think Nintendo should of included this with the consol. ...

Advantages: sharper/brighter picture, opens up more ports on TV, saves hassle. Disadvantages: quite expensive for a simple console improvement
The Nintendo Wii component video cable really is a sound investment if you are the owner of an HD/ LCD TV, and obviously a nintendo Wii. Before i bought it, i had trouble with the picture quality and contrast on many of the games. Games such as Wii Sports were fine, but more of the action/adventure games such as Zelda or Splinter Cell give a very dark picture which can sometimes be hard to make out what was happening. The only way i could combat ... ...which did help, but was alot of hassle. With the component cable, the picture is not only much brighter, but much sharper and defined. It gets rid of the hassle of having to turn the contrast back down after playing on the Wii and improves the overall gaming experiance. Another bonus is that on your HD TV, this cable plugs into the HD port on your TV which gives you an extra scart socket to plug in a video/ dvd player etc. It may not seem worth £20 ...

Advantages: better Picture quailty Disadvantages: unable to play the Wii Shop Games
The Wii Component Cable is a Cable which Delivers a 480P Picture. (The Wii is not a HD Console but the cable just offers a Higher Picture Quailty) The Cable retails from £19.99 - £29.99 and There is still a sortage as loads of people are after the cable. if you have a HDTV i would advise you to get as the Picture Quailty Improves very well. When useing the Component Cable the Picture is a lot more enhanced.
The Cable will support all wii Games and ... ...compared to the standard cable. But if you see a game with EDTV/HDTV you know you will use the full use of the component cable. After Plugging in the Cable i had to go into the menu and choose the 480P setting after the wii restarted i notice the wii Menu was a little more Clearer. I Notice a Large amount of difference when playing Medalof Honor heros 2 The picture was more clearer and had more of a texture. The Only problem I have with this cable ...

Advantages: Improves the visuals Disadvantages: Doesn't benefit smaller TV screens
Takes the Wii to the limit of its visual capacity. OK, so the Wii doesn't have the *really* hi-def visuals you would get from a PS3 or X-Box 360, but be honest here, does anyone buy a Wii for the visual experience? Admit it, the Wii is so popular because the motion sensitive control set was not only a great way of targetting non-gamers but also a genuinely innovative attitude from Nintendo, which other manufacturers are finally learning: visuals ... ...The composite cable will upgrade the visual experience of using the Wii - but only to 480p, so it won't stretch the capabilities of HD-capable TVs too far. If you have a large-ish TV (32") it will enhance the picture (and yes, it is worth doing if you can benefit from it, if your TV is smaller then you probably won't get to see much of a benefit from this product. ...

Advantages: The best picture quality you can get from your Wii. Disadvantages: It's only 480p.
The Nintendo Wii Component Video Cable allows you to display your Wii games in 480p high definition if you have a HDTV. This is not as good as 720p, 1080i or 1080p that you can get on a PS3 or XBox 360 but it is the best picture quality you can get from your Wii and you will notice the improvement. The cable has 5 pins that plug in to the component inputs on your TV. OR, if you have your speaker system or stereo placed relatively close to your TV ...
