Well I finally managed to get my hands on the brand new Nintendo Wii console (not meaning to brag) and after weeks of solid gaming I thought it was about time I told the online world my opinions of it. For anybody that has been locked away from society over christmas the Wii is Nintendo's brand new home console machine. It was this christmas's must have gadget due to its new wireless motion sensetive controllers and fun, party orientated game play. All I will say about the Wii in general is that it one of the most inovative and enjoyable pieces of technology that has been released in recent years. It will revolutionise the gaming world and this is just the beginning.
Anyway on to the rather crazily named nintendo Wii Nunchuck controller. This device acts as a controller attatchment to the standard wii remote and allows for more complex gaming controls in specific games. Its retail price is 14.99 but is currently out of stock in most gaming outlets.
The nunchuck itself is of high manufacturing quality and well designed in pure white plastic. it connects to the wii remote via a wire connection which seems strong enough to withstand the heaviest gaming session. The controller is designed to sit in either your left or right hand and contains a conventional anologue stick and two trigger buttons (termed C and Z). All buttons are easily accessable and the anologue stick provides the correct level of responsiveness. My only slight critisism is that I wish the c button was slightly larger.
In terms of controller use within games, the functions are probably best descibed as basic and obvious. In zelda: Twighlight princess the nunchuck is used to controll links movement and targetting system, but can also be shaken left and right to perform spin attacts which is a nice touch. Similary during Wii sport the nunchuck acts as your left hand with the wii remote in the right so you can punch with either hand. If the gaming rumours are to be believed though the use of the wii nunchuck will expand as game designers get used to the new system. One very interesting rumour is that the nunchuck and remote will be used in either hand as though your are "balanced" on a real snowboard in the up and coming SSX BLUR title.
Overall the wii nunchuck provides even more potential for new controller inovation for nintendo's already highly impressive new machine. The biggest plus for me is the fact that the nunchuck is not needed for every game and so you do not have to pay extra once the console is purchased (one is provided with machine but i would recommened getting an extra one for complete two player battles). The price is also very reasonable at just 14.99, the only trouble is finding one at the moment
Happy gaming Summary: Added game play for the hottest console around
