If, like me, you don't have a High Definition TV, and you want a little bit more graphical juice out of your Wii, then I highly recomend you invest in a Nintendo Wii RGB Cable.
This cable, (yep, that's all it is), which works in exactly the same way as a SCART cable (it plugs into the same hole at the back of the Wii, and into a SCART socket on your TV) is very very good indeed. I first noticed a difference as soon as I loaded up my Wii. The main interface was much much clearer, the words were a lot easier to recognise, and everything was so much more brighter. The colours on the different channels, especially the Virtual Console Game channels looked so vivid, I couldn't believe I made do with a SCART cable for so long!
I decided, that to see exactly how good the cable was, I'd play all of my Wii games, and see how they've changed, if at all. The biggest test for the RGB cable, and the first game I tried with it, the best looking game on the Wii: Zelda Twilight Princess.
As soon as I reached the Main Menu of the game, I noticed a difference. Everything looked cleaner, and more natural. I thought it looked beautiful. I honestly couldn't believe it. Hyrule Field looked glorious, and, finding those pesky Golden Bugs, was so much easier now I could actually see them a little more clearly. I began to notice more details, and I have to say, I began to enjoy the game more, now that everything looked so much more prettier. Normally, I'm pro gameplay-over-graphics, but I have to say, the upgrade in graphics certainly made a difference!
Next up was Wario Ware Smoth Moves, a game that, how can I put it, isn't the most graphically awe-inspiring game ever created. But, I could still see definite change. Colours became a lot more vivid and brighter, and the Single Player Menu looked alive with colour.
Red Steel looks a lot smoother than before. It doesn't look as blocky, and it does look like a different game! Details on enemies are easier to see, and the neon looks very nice indeed. Even the drab Warehouse levels at the start of the game looked a lot nicer!
Wii Sports is a lot brighter than before, and again everything is smoother and generally just nicer to look at. I didn't think it was possible to be any cuter, but it is!
In conclusion, I cannot believe how much of a difference this cable has made. Everything looks smarter, cleaner and nicer than before. Like I said earlier, I don't know what I was doing sticking with SCART all these years!
If you take your Wii seriously, or if you just want everything to look nicer, than I definitely recomend you get one of these cables. If, however, you have a HDTV, then I recomend you purchase the Nintendo Wii Component Cable for an even better viewing experience. Remember to check that your TV is RGB enabled by checking your Television Instruction Manual. If your TV supports SCART, chances are it supports RGB, but remember to be on the safe side. I wouldn't want you to buy something you can't use now, would I!
The cable is available from all good videogame retailers, and many online retailers, while stocks last! I payed nearly £20 for it inc. P&P from eBay, but you can expect to pay between 15-20 pounds for it, but prices are high at the moment due to the phenomanal demand for the Wii. There are also 3rd party alternatives available, but you tend to get the best quality from 1st party products.
Advantages: Better picture quality, easy to install Disadvantages: Expensive, not supported by all TVs
As I have a TV that doesn't support Component Cables, I decided to splash out on Nintendo's RGB cable to see if I could get improved visuals on my Wii.
The cable is very simple to install, as it plugs into the same slot on the Wii as the standard cables, and into the SCART socket on the back of your TV.
As soon as I loaded up my Wii I could immediately see the difference.
Everything was brighter and clearer than before - the various channel icons ... ...colourful, and everything seemed much sharper and more prominent, especially noticeable when looking at on screen text.
I realised, however, that the new visuals would be worthless if they weren't noticeable in the games, so next I decided to load up some of my games and see if they had improved too.
First of all I decided to try out Wii Sports.
I simply couldn't believe how much it had improved. The game's menu screens looked much cleaner, and ...

Advantages: Far better picture than standard composite, better looking games Disadvantages: Expensive, Only needed for larger screens 32" or greater
After the release of the little white bundle of joy on the 8/12/2006 people were given a composite cable to show off their new shinny new console.
AV enthusiasts all know a composite signal is the poor quality option for showing video on their TV's - what people really want is RGB or Component video input.
As console manufactures are out to make a profit they usually bundle the cheapest and most compatible option with the console and then release upgrades to that product for people who need or want it. Nintendo understand this and have released two video upgrade options - the WiiRGBcable or the Wii Component cable.
Lets get things straight from the off, The NintendoWii is not a High Definition Console, What this cable does offer is a enhanced image resolution of 480p.
I finally got hold of the component video cable after ...
