Ok we bought this game along with the Nintendo DS for our daughter for Christmas. We paid £99.00 for the two and also got an accessory pack for Free, this included a carry case which I would strongly recommend (although the DS is quite strong looking the case surrounding the DS will crack very easy if dropped).
Ok to begin when you first turn your Nintendo Game on You are directed to the Kennels where you are asked to choose a puppy from the list of dogs listed below: ****************************************** Shiba Inu Welsh Corgi Pembroke Labrador Retriever Miniature Schnauzer Toy Poodle Miniature Pinscher In the other Nintendog games these breeds differ.
You are then asked to name your puppy this is done via the speaker, you repeat your chosen name several times then once the DS recognises it a light bulb appears in the far right hand corner to acknowledge recognition. You are then asked to type your chosen name via the keyboard.
The difference
with this game to most is you not only you the keyboard ability but and the microphone but also the touch screen. You are supplied with a pen to use for the touch screen, we got a few spare with the DS.
You begin the game with money in your bank this is for you to look after your puppy so be careful not to spend it all at once.
Interacting with your dog couldn't be easier. To Call your dog you touch the screen with the pen provided, while calling your dogs name or whistling into the microphone. We find that gently tapping the screen works best to get our dogs attention. You can pet and stroke your dog using the pen, as you do a hand appears on the screen to dictate the action. Just like a real dog this is appreciated by the dog although if you do it for to long they can get irritated.
Now as with a real dog you need to walk, Wash, play, train, feed and water it and not forgetting clean up after it.
You can do all of these although you have to remember to check the status of your dog as this section will tell you how your puppy is feeling, whether it be hungry, thirsty or even dirty. If you leave your puppy for to long without bathing it you will see fleas jumping on it's coat(not nice).
You can purchase items in the shop such as food, water toys accessories and other items. There is also a second-hand shop that will buy items from you, this is one way of increasing your money.
You can take your new puppy for walks, you are shown a map which then use the pen to draw a route for you puppy to take. As a new puppy they cannot walk very far, so the first few walks are quiet short. As your puppy grows he will increase in strength and be able to walk further. On your puppies walks you must clear up any mess he may do. (All you do is click on the mess and it disappears)
You can visit different places on your walks such as the Gymnasium you can practice here for the Agility Trials. Also you could visit the park, this is where you can practice for disc competitions. You can also pick up little presents on your walks, and meet other puppies.
We found the hardest bit was to train the puppy, To enter competitions your puppy needs to be trained otherwise it does just sit there and look at you when you are trying to tell him to do things such as SIT, DOWN.
To train your puppy The light bulb is the training icon, when this appears it is time to train your puppy.
Touch the icon to start the microphone timer. Speak into the microphone the command you want you puppy to learn for the trick it just performed, The command can be anything you want it to be. It will take several attempts at this before your puppy recognises it. Once you dog learns the command, you can enter the name wish to call it on your TRICK LIST.
After this is performed you can then use these commands to get you puppy to perform the tricks. Your puppy has to be focused on you otherwise he will ignore you.
The greatest thing we found about this game is that it is designed so that children can only play it for around 30minutes at a time. The puppy will only go for one walk in a period of time. Also it gets bored of being trained ect.. SO just like a puppy it would rather play for a bit and rest.
Great for children who always want to play computers, this encourages block playing rather than continuous.
I found the game for £26.99 on Amazon this may not be the cheapest though Argos do some good offers so check them too.
There are many other features to this game but I don't want to spoil it for you, hope you enjoy my review.
